Capitals Trade Jurcina and Clark to Columbus

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have acquired left wing Jason Chimera from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for right wing Chris Clark and defenseman Milan Jurcina, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Chimera (chih-MAIR-uh), 30, is an 11-year pro who has played 461 NHL games between Columbus and Edmonton. He has recorded eight goals and nine assists (17 points) while playing all 39 games this season. A 6’2”, 216-pound left-hand shot, he stood tied for sixth on the Blue Jackets in goals and tied for eighth in points.

In his career Chimera has scored at least 14 goals four times, posted at least 30 points three times and topped 90 penalty minutes three times. He has played all but 36 games since the start of the 2005-06 season. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, he was drafted by the Oilers in the fifth round of the 1997 NHL Draft and joined the Blue Jackets via trade from Phoenix (which held his rights during the 2004-05 work stoppage). He will wear No. 25 in Washington, as he did in Columbus.

Clark, 33, was in his fifth year with the Capitals, his fourth as team captain. He totaled 60 goals and 63 assists (123 points) in 240 games with Washington. Jurcina, 26, played four seasons with the Capitals and had six goals and 30 assists (36 points) in 211 games.

Fellow B's fans, remember when Jurcina was supposed to be good? Oddly, his rookie season was by far his best.

jason fu*king chimera, are you god damn kidding me GMGM?

this has to be a salary dump but i would have much rather had draft picks than ANOTHER 3rd-4th line winger.... awesome trade for the jackets, hands down the winner here

GMGM you f*cking moron!!!!!!!!!!!

Addition by subtraction. Clark was making $2.6...that's way too much. Now Alzner gets to play full time

i mean i understand the theory behind this, i do, but the return is absolutely pathetic. give me a 2nd or 3rd and 5th rounder an i'm not complaining. But Jason Chimera? i would think a couple of guys on hersey could/can do what he will do with the caps, the return for these 2 players is pretty awful

There must be another trade brewing for the Caps, this trade is weird to say the least. Decent D-men are a premium in this league.

You're not gonna get draft picks from a team who's at the bottom of the Conference. Chimera's a useful player, honestly I'd take him over Clark. The bonus is that his cap hit is $800k less and that'll be mighty helpful next year. Dumping Jurcina means you get Alzner and I'd think Caps fans would prefer that.

Washington can't be paying bottom 6 guys close to $3 million. I think it's a good deal for both teams.

My gut says Ovechkin, but I don't agree with it at all. Maybe a guy like Knuble will wear the C. The Caps really don't have much left in the leadership department. Chris Clark was a big part of that in my opinion. He is a lot like an Ethan Moreau type guy, I really have a lot of respect for Clark.

he's on the books for 2 more years @ 1.875.... he might be just making a layover in washington rather than a career. Can't see the caps paying him this kind of money, when guys in hersehy are pretty much ready (perrault in particular). I think he's gonna prob.be packaged and shipped by deadline
