Capitals Sign Shaone Morrisonn to One-Year Deal

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have signed defenseman Shaone Morrisonn to a one-year contract, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Morrisonn (pronounced SHAWN MOHR-ih-suhn), 25, played his third full season with the Capitals in 2007-08, recording 10 points (one goal, nine assists) and 63 penalty minutes in 76 games. He had a +4 plus/minus rating, including a +14 mark in the 55 games under head coach Bruce Boudreau. Morrisonn finished fourth on the team with an average of 20:16 of ice time per game. Morrisonn played in all seven Capitals playoff games, despite suffering a broken jaw, and recorded one assist.

With the signing of Morrisonn, Washington has 18 of the 20 forwards and defensemen who played for the team in the 2008 Stanley Cup playoffs under contract, including 14 of the 15 players who had a point in the team’s seven playoff games. The team’s top 10 scorers from the 2007-08 regular season are all under contract for 2008-09.

The Vancouver, British Columbia, native was acquired from Boston in 2004 and has played 278 career NHL games, 237 of them for the Capitals. He has had a positive plus/minus rating each year of his NHL career and has recorded 45 points (six goals, 39 assists) and 278 penalty minutes.

if he's worth 1.9M per then the caps robbed mike green. 10 points and a little over 20 min. per night equals almost 2m per? come on
he's a soft defensemen and he should be thankful for getting the 900K he got last year, how he fits into the caps future plans as a 2mil per guy, i have no idea.

Morrisonn's defense is much stronger than Green's.

they're both not sound on the point, but give me a 50+ point guy over a soft road cone with 10 points per season any day of the week. For his size, he's as soft as they come and gets rolled up game after game... and he's slower then green... but hey, those are just the facts
