WASHINGTON, D.C. – The
Washington Capitals have signed free-agent right wing
Matt Bradley, who most recently played in the NHL with the
Pittsburgh Penguins, and free-agent defenseman Jean-Francois Fortin, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Bradley, 27, was selected 102nd overall (fourth round) by San Jose in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. The 6' 3", 199-pound native of Stittsville, Ont., made his NHL debut with the Sharks in 2000-01 and was traded to Pittsburgh for
Wayne Primeau on March 11, 2003. In four NHL seasons Bradley has totaled 19 goals, 26 assists (45 points) and 164 penalty minutes in 203 games. He totaled seven goals, nine assists (16 points) and 65 penalty minutes in 82 games with Pittsburgh in 2003-04.
Prior to beginning his pro career in 1998-99, Bradley played three seasons of junior hockey with Kingston of the OHL. He earned the William Hanley Award – given annually to the OHL’s Most Gentlemanly Player – in 1998.
Fortin, 26, was selected 35th overall (second round) by Washington in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with Washington in 2001-02. The 6' 2", 205-pound native of Laval, Que., recorded one goal, seven assists (eight points) and 50 penalty minutes in 39 games with Portland in 2004-05.
In three NHL seasons Fortin has totaled one goal, four assists (five points) and 42 penalty minutes in 71 games. He has totaled 11 goals, 30 assists (41 points) and 159 penalty minutes in 172 career games at the AHL level. Prior to beginning his pro career in 1999-00, Fortin spent four seasons playing for Sherbrooke of the QMJHL.
