Capitals Recall John Erskine from Hershey

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Washington Capitals have recalled defenseman John Erskine from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Erskine, 26, began the season with the Capitals but did not appear in a game before being assigned to Hershey Oct. 18. Since then he has played four games for the Bears, recording two assists, nine penalty minutes and a +2 rating.

A seventh-year professional from Kingston, Ontario, the 6-4, 216-pound Erskine has played 141 games in the NHL with Dallas and the New York Islanders. He will be available for tonight’s game at the Carolina Hurricanes.

Little bit of a strange move imo. Sounds like the're disapointed in Brash.

Very necessary against the Canes tonight . I'll be happy when he stays up for a while. Their schedule's pretty soft enforcer wise through November.

I agree with you guys. I don't quite understand this move right now. The Hershey coach made the statement in our local paper that he is really impressed with Erskines playing ability. Good for him, bad for me as a Hershey Bears fan.

Well maybe they don't want the scary combination of Scott Walker and Mike Commodore bullying and intimidating the whole team?

Good news for once. Hopefully he'll stick around for more than a couple games.
