Capitals Recall Five Players From Hershey, Including Doull

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Capitals have recalled forwards Doug Doull (DOO uhl), Boyd Gordon, Boyd Kane and Dave Steckel and defensemen and Mike Green from Hershey of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Doull, 31, has played in 29 games in the AHL this season (26 games for the San Antonio Rampage and three in Hershey). He has one assist and 34 penalty minutes with Hershey this season and has four points and 118 penalty minutes overall.

Gordon, 22, has played 22 games this season for the Capitals and is second among all NHL forwards with 5:04 of penalty killing ice time per game. With Hershey this season Gordon has 11 goals and 13 assists (24 points) through 34 games and a plus-4 rating.

Green, 20, has appeared in 15 games for the Capitals this season over two recall stints. He scored his first NHL goal Feb. 3 against Toronto. He is third among Hershey rookies with 25 points (five goals, 20 assists) in 39 games this season.

Kane, 27, ranks seventh on the team with 34 points (13 goals, 21 assists) in 50 games for Hershey and is second on the team with 135 penalty minutes. The Capitals initially recalled Kane Jan. 4; he played in three games before returning to Hershey.

Steckel, 23, has appeared in four games for the Capitals this season. He has nine goals and 18 assists for 27 points in 48 games this season for the Bears. Steckel ranks ninth on the Bears in points and is tied for second on the team with a plus-7 rating.

Beat me to it, Vodka.

It will be interesting to see if Doull actually dresses tonight against the Flyers. Good to see he got the call though.

Doull will be looking at Brashear and Cairns as it's the Flyers tonight and the Pens tomorrow for the Caps before they shut it down for the Olympic break. Could be trouble for Dougy as he isn't anywhere near either guy's level.

Good for Doull

Nice to see him back in the show. He was great for the Ruins in 03-04. Very entertaining fighter who likes to go toe to toe. He loses some battles...but he always shows up. He's not looking to have a hugfest thats for sure. Now the Ruins TWO previous enforcers are skating for other clubs. This has been the worst Ruins season of my life. If I ever see MOC on the street... I may assault him.

Nice to see the Capitals actually give Doull a shot. That's more than you can say about the Coyotes.

I can see Doull going with Roy tomorrow, both teams are in the need for a win and they want to get something going early. I say the first 5 minutes if there are no penaltys, Doull and Roy will go. I wish VandenBussche was healthy so we can see Doull-Vandenbussche

The Caps finally have a legit enforcer! I'd like to see him stay in the NHL, he's a real entertainer and he'll fight anyone.

The pens game should be interesting saturday because last time they played Whitney speared Ovechkin.

I would take Peat over Doull. His size gives him a better chance against some of the bigger guys. I wish it was the NHL of old so we could still see goons like Peat and Doull in the lineup on a regular basis.

I would too. Doull would make a good 'second guy' to have with a super-heavy. Downey-esqe.
