Capitals Re-Sign Left Wing Ben Clymer

Washington, D.C. – – The Washington Capitals have re-signed left wing Ben Clymer to a three-year contract, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

“We like the way Ben Clymer competes and admire the professionalism that he brings to our club,” McPhee said. “He’s a valuable player who is well respected by his teammates and an important part of our future.”

Clymer, 28, had a career-best 16 goals in his first Capitals season in 2005-06, adding 17 assists for 33 points in 77 games, good for seventh on the team in scoring. His 13 even-strength goals ranked third on the team, and seven of his 16 goals were the team’s first of the game.

A 6’1”, 201-pound native of Bloomington, Minn., Clymer is entering his eighth year as a professional with experience playing both forward and defense. He has played 372 career NHL games, recording 45 goals and 109 points, and won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2003-04.

He wouldn't have had half as many points without AO.

Had a good year last season. I've seen his whole career and always been impressed with his work ethic and versatility.

Gotta love anybody who bloodies Jason Blake, not letting that flea off the hook.

good move by the caps. he's a pretty good supporting player and i could see him playing on the caps 2nd or 3rd line.

they did a good job of re-signing him don't get me wrong, but it's pretty far fetched to see him on the top 2 lines. With all the Kids coming up from the Championship Hershey team, they primarily signed him b/c he can also play defence.

More than likely you will see him probably paired up as the 3rd line D. Either way, he played well here in D.C.

you need to groom your kids into the lineup, not everyone has the ability to come in and light it up the way AO did, and there is always the injury risk.

I think resigning Clymer was a great move by the Caps.
