Capitals Re-Sign Donald Brashear

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Capitals have re-signed left wing Donald Brashear to a one-year contract, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Brashear, 35, was signed by Montreal as a free agent on July 28, 1992. In 13 NHL seasons, he has played with four teams: Montreal, Vancouver, Philadelphia and Washington. Brashear has skated in 821 career games, recording 77 goals and 109 assists for 186 points with 2,290 penalty minutes.

A 6’2”, 235-pound native of Bedford, Ind., Brashear was signed by Washington as a free agent on July 14, 2006. He has appeared in 52 games for the Capitals so far this season, recording seven points (two goals, five assists) in his first year with the team. He leads Caps and ranks fourth overall in the NHL in penalty minutes this year (125).

Awesome. Good to see that his services are appreciated. Also, this pretty much assures that we'll see at least some form of an enforcer on most teams in the East for at least another year.

An enforcer getting an extension mid-season is pretty uncommon these days. Will the Caps faith in him provoke him to be a little more active?

I'm no Brashear fan, but this is good signing. It only means, that his activities are accepted by team and there are still need for players like him. Lets hope this signing will open eyes to different GM's and make Southeast division tougher.

I don't care to much for Brashear either but I must say that he's certainly earned his extension. Agree that this will also force teams to keep or sign enforcers for another year in the east, especially in his division. 14 years and still going strong.

LOL, Rangers better bring in McGrattan now since Brashear owns Orr and Brash is sacred of McGrats! Your not alone rabbit, I bet Orr pissed himself when he read this too!

Please, Brashear is going down. Next season Orr will punish the old man at least 3-1 in fights. ALSO it was only 2-1 Brashear this season.
