Capitals Re-Sign Defenseman Milan Jurcina

ARLINGTON, Va. The Washington Capitals have re-signed defenseman Milan Jurcina to a two-year contract, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Jurcina, 24, completed his second NHL season in 2006-07. He played 91 career games with the Boston Bruins before being acquired by the Capitals on Feb. 1, 2007, in exchange for a conditional draft pick.

The 64, 233-pound native of Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia, played in 30 games for Washington last season and logged more than 20 minutes of ice time in 29 games. He led Caps defensemen in ice time 19 times and led the team on 14 occasions. He was +5 in his 30 games with the Caps and had two goals and nine assists. Jurcina saw action in 40 games for the Bruins last season and tallied two goals and one assist.

Jurcina was an eighth-round selection of the Bruins, 241st overall, in the 2001 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut for Boston during the 2005-06 season and recorded 11 points. Jurcina represented Slovakia in the 2006 Olympic Winter Games, the 2006 and 2007 World Championships and two World Junior Championships.

I wish the Bruins never gave this kid up. We gave him away for nothing.

big mistake by the Bs

He's a solid 2nd pair physical blueliner, he was easily the most physical defenseman on the Caps after the trade. Threw 5 to 6 huge hits in every game and played solid defensively.

Ya but when he did get it on the net he scored, and maybe if he was given a chance it would have been a different story he never got to get into a groove.

He's developing into a pretty solid defenseman. He was a smart acquisition by the Caps.
