Capitals Re-Sign Chris Clark to Three-Year Deal
ARLINGTON, Va. - The Washington Capitals have signed right wing and team captain Chris Clark to a three-year contract extension through the 2010-11 season, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
"Chris is a consummate professional and a terrific leader," said vice president and general manager George McPhee. "He has been an integral part of our team's growth in the past two seasons, both on and off the ice. We are excited that he will be a Washington Capital for many years to come." Clark, 31, is coming off his first year as team captain and the finest offensive season of his career. He posted 30 goals and 24 assists (54 points) in 74 games, finishing third on the team in goals, points and shots (164). Clark's 30 goals were the second-best total by a Capitals captain (Kevin Hatcher had 34 in 1992-93). His 18.3% shooting percentage ranked eighth in the NHL and he was tied for fifth in the league with four shorthanded goals. A native of South Windsor, Conn., Clark has 50 goals in two seasons with the Capitals, 30 more than his two seasons prior to being acquired via trade from Calgary. He has added 43 assists with Washington for 93 points in his 152 games as a Cap; he has 164 points (85 goals, 79 assists) in 430 career NHL games. Entering his ninth professional season, the 6'0", 196-pound Clark has represented the United States twice at the IIHF World Championship. He was the captain of the 2007 U.S. team, posting two goals and an assist in six games.

Ovechkin maybe the face of the franchise but this guy is the heart and soul of the team. One of the best deals McPhee has made to get this guy (i think he gave up a late rounder 2 years ago)
They guy is a hardnosed player and plays with tons of grit and has produced his best offensive stats of his carreer while with the caps, and definately deserves the "C".

I have said many times that one of the dumbest moves Sutter has ever made here in Calgary was letting this guy go for a CONDITIONAL draft pick. Just plain stupid. He's turned into a helluva a hockey player in Washington and had captain material written all over him, even when he was a Flames.
Good signing by the Caps.

Glad he developed as a good player out of the NW division...
Good move by the Caps. He is going to be a very good player for more than a few years to come.

I love this move. Before we got AO and Semin, Clark was all the Caps had in terms of quality players(outside of Olie). Good player.
When I first saw this, I couldn't believe Clark had only been in DC 2 seasons; I could have sworn he'd been there longer.

Clark had a monster offensive year for the Caps and seemed to earn the letter on his jersey every game. I wouldn't be surprised to see his offensive production slip a little, but he should still be a vital part of the Caps lineup. Good signing.

That'd be ****ing nice... I'm tired of seeing that little prick start **** with Boogaard, then run behind his visor and a ref. I'm sure you probably hate it more, because the Nucks actually have guys in his weight class - while Derek will only get a chance at him with the gloves off, if he takes the 2,5,10 package.
