Bummer! I hope Big John Erskine is ready to pick up the pace (fightwise). 1 major isn't going to cut the mustard this year with that squad of pansies.

And this surprises you that McPhee cut Sugar? He said all along he wasn't going to keep a tough guy.

Somebody who knows the Caps tell me what's up with Alexandre Giroux?

He has decent size and absolutely dominates at the AHL level...60 goals, 37 assists for 97 points in 69 games! plus/minus of plus 23.

I watched him in the playoffs... 28 points in 22 games.

Is every Cap better than this guy...could he not play on the 3rd or 4th line?

Nothing unexpected here.

Sugar got his go with the NHL's best, and that'll be his claim to NHL fame.

he got a handful of chances last year being called up, numerous breakaways in a couple of games, just didn't really pan out. The guy is a stud in the AHL, but he's never showed any reason for them to keep him up on the big squad.

i guess chris borque has made it through thus far, could be flash's replacement until healthy (would be my guess)

good thing we improved our defence again this year

On the Hershey website a little while back it said that they signed Sugden to a one year contract, So it tends to say the the Reporter from Washington might not know what is going on in Hershey, an the fact that Grant McNeil will not be skating till Christmas because of he blown wheel, leaves the Heavy weights spot wide open for Sugden.....

I have a feeling that Sugden is going to get his shot at the show a few times this season, there are way to many tough teams that are going to want to send a message in the early stages of the season, an I think after the Boston game McPhee an Boudreau are going to realize that, an Use Sugden in the same fashion that the Islanders used Mitch Fritz last season.....

He sure didn't look like it when I saw him.

Many of those lifers with good numbers are small like Jason Krog.

This guy was a big lanky forward with good hands, going towards the net.

Giroux is a scorer, he has to make the team as a top-6 forward. He is not good enough for that and he is not good enough as a grinder to play on a 3rd or 4th line. Basically that means he'll remain a minor-league scorer.
There are a lot of examples of players like him. Darren Haydar for example...lacks size and the defensive game and is a absolute top-scorer in the AHL. Skill wise he could make it in the NHL.

I'd tend to think maybe it's some behind the scenes stuff?? The guy was just a scoring machine in Hershey last year. As you said he's got decent size, doesn't get pushed around to bad, he's a solid scorer and decent setup guy. I'm shocked he didn't make the cut at least for even the start of the season.

I can't believe Washington is going to start the season without a tough guy. It's been said many times that Erskines days of fighting are pretty much gone due to concussion concerns (I think), so I can't imagine they are depending on him. Boudreau tried going without one in Hershey for a while but it never worked out. He brought Erskin in and then he brought Brennan in. Washington may end up going the same route. None to start but realizing it just won't cut it and pretty much being forced to bring someone up. I sure hope so!
