OMFG throw the book at him! Maybe we should watch it in super slow mo 100 times then decide. Hockey is fast and split second decisions get played over and over and over... You get the point. Give him a game.

Yeah,

The league, when they review a play for disciplinary actions, wouldn't think of using slow or stop motion to see what happened,

The next thing you know they would have a war room in Toronto set up to review goals that happened in the moment of the game.

This is going to be a whopper of a suspension.

Erskine isn't a very good player and he's not overly valuable to the Caps add in that he's a fighter= Shannapuss throwing the book at him.

Shannapuss is going to have a field day with this review, stuck out the elbow, hit to the head, and caused injury...ect.

It horse****.....but this is 5+ games easy.

I agree. I'm thinking 5 games. Not saying it's deserved but Shanabans only given out one suspension so far.

Wasn't as intentional as a lot you are suggesting. The first replay shows exactly what happened. They were both chasing a loose puck and both reached for it. That's very key because it proves John Erskine's first inititive on the play was to play the puck.

Simmonds got to the puck first, chipped it passed Erskine along the boards, and was about to take off. It was then that Erskine reacted with the elbow out of desperation. This was an attempt to stop Simmonds from getting by him, not an attempt to go out of his way to elbow a guy in the head. We've seen both, this wasn't the latter

This is an elbowing penalty, not a suspension. More proof (do we need more?) that this game has gone soft.

It's not an in-person hearing, so he'll get up to 5 games, though I don't believe it was intentional. Whatever he ends up getting, the referee should get the same amount for not calling a penalty when it happened right in front of him.

I might be in the minority, but it was a bang/bang play. I didn't see intent to injure there. I say 2 games max only because suspensions are trendy nowadays.

he deserves 3 games, this is coming from someone who hates suspensions. He may have broke his nose/concussion.

That's a dirty play intentional or not. So the guy chips the puck and may get an odd man rush, oh boy, Erskine then proceeds to clock
him with a vicious elbow "messier style".

I've always respected Erskine and his style of play but that's two games in a row where he's crossed the line. Orr challenged him and chewed his ass for not going.

2-3 games IMO ...

Horrible elbow; it was more instinctive than him trying to hurt a guy, but irregardless, the result is the same for the Flyers.

The results of these types of elbows are potentially career threatening.
Throw the book at him. At least 10 games.

Forget this review bc it wasn't a penalty. When is Backes review. He hurt Huskins too! Hope it's an in person hearing. Gotta be 5 +.

Yea the refs have been pretty bad... they looked right at Schenn's hit on Volchenkov and didn't call anything, yet he got suspended.. but they have no problem calling the stupidest faceoff violation delay of game crap.
