Capitals Fire Bruce Boudreau; Name Dale Hunter Head Coach

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have named Dale Hunter the team’s head coach, replacing Bruce Boudreau, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Hunter, 51, becomes the 15th coach in Washington Capitals history and will make his debut behind the bench tomorrow as the Capitals host the St. Louis Blues at Verizon Center.

Hunter helped the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) win their first Memorial Cup Championship in 2004-05 and is the fastest head coach in OHL history to record 300 and 400 career wins. The Petrolia, Ont., native owns the highest winning percentage in league history with a record of 451-189-23-24 (.691) in his 11 seasons behind the bench for London and was the 2003-04 winner of the Brian Kilrea Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Coach of the Year.

Hunter played 19 seasons in the NHL from 1980-99, appearing in 1,407 games and collecting 1,020 points (323 goals, 697 assists) along with 3,565 penalty minutes with Quebec, Washington and Colorado.

How is Hunter's coaching style? It would be hard to get softer than Fatty B, but is he someone who generally likes grit on his teams? Someone who follows the OHL give some input.

I think if Dale Hunter has been hired it would have been big news here in his home town !!
Nothing was said on the news this morning , but it is a known fact he does have a standing offer from the Caps to become their head coach if Boudreau is ever fired .
He has stated he wont leave the London Knights , a team he is half owner of and has been the head coach ever since him and Mark took over as owners , he has always joked the only way I can be fired from this job is if I fire myself .
If he has been hired I think it would have to be a guaranteed contract for at least 5 years and the money would have to be in the 10-15 million range , he has a real cash cow in the London Knights , a team he is half owner of , the Knights play to a full house of 9000 fans every home game , at $17.50 a ticket you figure out their take every night , all the gate money is theirs , they just rent the ice for games ..

His first game behind the bench is Tuesday night against the BLUES !!!!!

It's been painfully evident the players have been in the process of tuning him out for about a year now, so this isn't all that unexpected.

As much of a piece of **** Dale Hunter was through his career, I'm really interested to what kind of team he employs, and what kind of on ice strategy.

In actuallity, Hunter was crying because he let up the series clinching goal on a mistake he had made and pulled a very immature move, so maybe your hero was crying.
