Capitals Claim Sturm Off Waivers
ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals claimed left wing Marco Sturm off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Sturm, 32, has played in 17 games with the Kings this season, collecting nine points (four goals, five assists) and 17 penalty minutes. Sturm, who began the season with the Boston Bruins, missed the first 32 games of the year (27 games with Boston, five games with Los Angeles) recovering from a lower body injury. Sturm is in his 14th professional season and has been the model of offensive consistency, as he has scored 20-or-more goals in each of his last seven full NHL seasons. Sturm has appeared in 872 games with San Jose, Boston and Los Angeles, registering 475 points (238 goals, 237 assists) and 415 penalty minutes. In addition, he collected 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists) in 52 career playoff games. The native of Dingolfing, Germany, Sturm is the all-time NHL leader in goals, assists, points and games played by a player born and raised in that country. Sturm has represented his native land in eight international tournaments, including the 1998, 2002 and 2010 Olympic Games (was named to the 2006 team as well, but was unable to participate due to injury). Sturm was drafted by San Jose as their first pick, 21st overall, in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft and played seven-plus season with San Jose before his trade to Boston. Which means Semin will probably be gone. But for now its King out and Sturm in. Just another year of McPhee doing what he does best- making this team worse at the deadline. We dont need a washed up guy with half a heart who cant stay off IR.

Sturm has 19 points in 52 career playoff games, and hasn't played more than 12 games in one playoff year. Not exactly experienced.

Sturm hasnt maybe experience of playoffs-games so much but he gives that experience either, gives a good speed and some skills. Good player in penalty killing. |
