Capitals Assign D.J. King to Hershey

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have assigned forward D.J. King to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

King, 27, has played in one game this season with Washington. The native of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, has appeared in 118 NHL games with Washington and St. Louis, recording 11 points (four goals, seven assists) and 215 penalty minutes.

The 6’3”, 231-pound forward has appeared in 189 career AHL games with Worcester and Peoria, collecting 35 points (16 goals, 19 assists) and 453 penalty minutes. King was acquired by Washington via trade from St. Louis on July 28, 2010. He was originally selected in the sixth round, 191st overall, by the Blues in the 2002 Entry Draft.

Bummer. Hardly a surprise, though. Nothing worse than letting him sit in the press box night after night.

The AHL has some epic toughness...Most heavyweights who mean something are there.

What a waste. A few of them should be in the NHL still.

The Caps Never Learn

Even in today's gentle NHL, the Caps still will be a soft team when the pussification of the league subsides by mid year. Right now, Semin is their leader in PIMs, and with another springtime swoon, they'll announce that the team should address the toughness issue. Sad

Its easy to give him that label. Over the past year he has been healthy to play every night. Him being benched hurts his stats and what he is worth. Going to Hershey to play every game and show his capabilities will no doubt in my mind bounce him back. We know he is tough, its hard to position him or give him a top 10 top 15 when he has been off the ice so long. IMO as long as he stays healthy we're gonna see good things again from Dj. I'll be looking forward to AHL fight videos!

wrecker or king or both

No way do they put both of these guys in the line up. Wrecker plays like one shift a period. The guy can fight like a madman, but that's where his hockey skills end. I can't imagine King would get much more ice than that. Maybe they both stay in Hershey, but only one gets in the lineup each night.

Only thing we can hope now is the fighting in the AHL picks up with all of these fighters getting sent down. It's been rather weak so far this year.

I'd love to see both Rechlicz and King in the lineup against Norfolk or Albany but I doubt that will ever happen.

LOL, imagine a game against Bingo. Both guys dressed on a line together, Lessard will have nowhere to run.

I'm crossing my fingers hoping that all these heavies dropping down to the AHL won't have a trickle down effect where the AHL boys go to the ECHL etc. . .
