Canucks Sign Kellan Lain to Entry-Level Contract

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President & General Manager Michael D. Gillis announced today that the Canucks have signed free agent forward Kellan Lain.

The 6’6”, 220-pound forward registered 16 points (8-8-16) and 111 penalty minutes in 32 games with Lake Superior State University in the CCHA this season. He finished second on the team and 13th in the CCHA in power play goals (5) and led his team in faceoff wins (313).

In three seasons with Lake Superior State, the Oakville, ON, native has compiled 39 points (21-18-39) and 210 penalty minutes in 108 games.

stats seem pretty good. a few pims anyone know more about this kid?

I big kid like this breaking the Canucks lineup seem's like a pipe-dream but all the best to this guy. His name is cool enough for me lol

Sounds like the Canucks are projecting him to be a Dave Steckel or Paul Gaustad type - 4th, 3rd line center tops. From what I've read he's a very good skater for his size and plays with an edge, as evident by those PIM totals - but no idea how he is in faceoffs. Vancouver hasn't had a prospect in the organization with this kind of size since Chris McAllister. Looks like he'll be headed to the Wolves this week, but his size alone makes for a very intriguing option for the future.
