Canucks Sign Darcy Hordichuk

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis today announced that the team has signed free agent forward Darcy Hordichuk.

Hordichuk, 27, joins the Canucks from Nashville where last season he recorded three points (1-2-3) and 60 penalty minutes in 45 games. He also played in five playoff games with the Predators, recording two penalty minutes.

In 302 regular season games with Nashville, Florida, Phoenix and Atlanta, Hordichuk has recorded 26 points (13-13-26) and 747 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-1, 212 lbs. native of Kamsack, Saskatchewan, was originally selected in the 6th round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Thrashers.

West gets even stronger. I like to see how tough Hordichuk acts next meeting against the coyotes.

Oh boy I can't wait!

Wow, great news. Is it just me or has this been the most heavys switching teams on the first day of Free Agent signing in a while, or ever for that fact.

Lucky SOB's! I was hoping the Isles would grab him.

I can't think of a day more active for enforcers either. Add in the recent trade of Brian McGrattan from Ottawa to Phoenix and that's one heck of a lot of movement.

Someone finally caved into Darcy's contract demands, and Vancouver finally did something good. Nice pick up.

YES!

Fantastic move by Vancouver by picking up Hordi. They needed a heavyweight and were talking about how they were going to get one - so it's nice to see that they stayed true to their word.

Vancouver has a solid bunch of middleweights, but they just needed a true heavyweight to make them a tough team, and now they have one with Hordichuk on the team. The Canucks will be pretty darn tough next year IMO.

Good to see Hordi find a new team. I just love hearing about any enforcer getting signed. Now every team in the West has a heavyweight except for Chicago, Nashville, Columbus, and Calgary. Hopefully each of them get one though.

Hordichuk will now have to answer the bell against Boogaard though, because it seems like in the past Hordi has avoided him.

But overall, this is just great news and I'm happy for the Canuck fans on this board too because they are some of the best at talking hockey and they deserve to have an enforcer on their team.

Anyone else think Calgary is regretting letting Godard go? They'll have to pick someone up now, at least on a two-way. Vandymeer could always stay, but now it's interesting.
