Canucks Sign Anson Carter
Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have signed free agent right wing Anson Carter, subject to a physical.
Carter, 31, joins the Canucks after splitting the 2003-04 season with the New York Rangers, Washington Capitals and Los Angeles Kings. In 62 NHL games that season, Carter tallied 15 goals, 13 assists and 28 points, including four game winning goals. In 529 career NHL games, Carter has recorded 158 goals, 180 assists, 338 points and 170 penalty minutes. He has also played 24 NHL playoff games. "We are very excited to add Anson to our hockey team and feel he will be a great fit among our forwards," said Dave Nonis. "In eight NHL seasons, Anson has shown that he can score and add an offensive touch every where he has played. We feel his experience will be a great addition to our hockey club." The 6-foot-1, 209 lbs., native of Toronto, Ontario has played for five NHL teams in his eight year career. Along with the Rangers, Capitals and Kings, Carter has also played for the Edmonton Oilers and Boston Bruins. A career highlight for Carter came in the 2003 World Hockey Championship, when he scored the game winning goal in the gold-medal game versus Sweden. He has scored 20 or more goals on four separate occasions. Carter was originally selected by the Quebec Nordiques in the 10th round, 220th overall in the 1992 Entry Draft. This signing directly affects the on-going negotiations with Matt Cooke...I hope this doesn't mean Cooke is on the block...

If Carter was to actually get back into how he played a few years back, he could easily be very good on the Canucks.
I don't see him really playing that great though. I would much rather see him with the Canucks then the Leafs. ![]() |

is it me or has Anson Carter's performance been on a steady decline for years now.
his work ethic is what's suspect. the guy is never hustling out there unless the puck comes to him. he doesn't back check with any vigor and lollygags to the bench at the end of every shift. with a year off, the Thrashers should hope he somehow remained focused or he just might come back to the league and really stink it up.

I don't know if those are the right words for him to be saying right now.
The turn around part is ok, but the worth part is garbage. With the new cap in play, there is no reason for any NHL player to be cocky and say that he recieved the most money because he's the best or because he can make things change. That's the whole reason that the cap was put in play. |
