Canucks Sign Alexandre Mallet to Entry-Level Contract

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President & General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have signed forward Alexandre Mallet. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mallet, 20, recorded 81 points (34-47-81) and added 132 penalty minutes in 68 games with the QMJHL Rimouski Oceanic in the 2011.12 season. He led the Oceanic in goals scored and penalty minutes. In three seasons with the Oceanic, Mallet has registered 110 points (49-61-110) and collected 272 penalty minutes in 154 games played.

In the 2012 QMJHL playoffs, he registered 25 points (10-15-25) in 21 games to help the seventh seeded Oceanic to the President Cup Final.

The Amqui, QC, native was originally selected in the second round, 57th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Alexandre Mallet is an absolute stud. His fight record in the QMJHL is a 13-1-3 on DYG.com, the only loss being to HW Champ Blake Millman, a pure 4th line goon for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

Alexandre Mallet vs Blake Millman Feb 19, 2012 ...

He has a couple of KOs/TKOs also

Carl Tatonetti vs Alexandre Mallet Dec 10, 2010 ...

His fighting style reminds me of Krys Barch's. He's a slow slugger, he wont be the strongest, not even a heavyweight, but yeah, great guy to have in your system and, ultimatly, on the big club.

I talked about him before the last draft, when he had a tryout with the Canadiens.

Quote:
Undrafted, not even ranked into the top 210 North American skaters, 20 years old Alexandre Mallet should be drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the next draft. Trevor Timmins (Habs' scout) had a conversation with Mallet and invited him to the team's combine. They're probably looking forward to draft him.

Mallet may not be a great talent, neither the next heavyweight champion in the pros, but he certainly has a future in the NHL as a defensive-minded forward. Who ever drafts Mallet, it means you get a fighting bottom-6 instead of a generic non-fighting Europuss, and this is good for the game of hockey.

6 ft 1 - 200lbs
2011-12 Rimouski Oceanic QMJHL 68G 34G 47A 81pts 132PIMs

Number of fights total: 30
Fighting record (among them who were rated dropyourgloves.com only): 11-1-2 (okay you don't have all the fights, but you see he's a very skilled fighter)

Only (narrow) loss to QMJHL 6 ft 5 Heavyweight Champ: Blake Millman (unbeaten in 25 fights). Blake Millman is a pure fighter, with only 5 points in his juniors.

And many wins by KO and TKO:

He's was invited at Montreal Canadiens' draft combine:

hopefully he developes into a good full time player. and sticks to his game. Canucks need more players with that complete package. he's still young looking forward to hear more positve things about and from him.
