Wow, very impressed about McIver - so far he's beaten out Bourdon for the job of seventh d-man - looks like its down to him and Edler. Bourdon needs seasoning in the minors - he's obviously not ready yet.

Sucks about Rypien - would have loved to see him make the starting lineup, but he was hurt most of training camp and pre-season, so maybe some time in Manitoba will be good for him. We'll see him up again soon. Mason Raymond is still on the team too - new potential linemate for the Sedins?

No surprise about McGillis.

Well Mciver is there probably because of Edler's injury but AV has also said a lot of good things about this guy, I would consider Mciver a HW, and I'm stoked about having a tough guy to start the season who will actually get playing time

Unfortunately McIver will be sent down once Salo is healthy. But hopefully he can get into a few scraps before that happens.

Vigneault likes McIver's six-foot-two, 195-pound size and his hard-nosed attitude.

"He made a case for himself," said the coach. "He's not a scorer but he scored two goals (in exhibition). He's a safe defenceman and he fought four times. He deserves to start with us."

Great attitude, great quote.

The Canucks acquired Byron Ritchie and Ryan Shannon and they resigned Linden for another year so I expected that Rypien will be back in Manitoba again, there is no room for him on the 4th line.

He should replace Burrows. But that's not going to happen unfortunately.

We should see Rypien at some point this season as well:

Quote:
Vigneault expects Rypien will be back with the Canucks sometime this season.

"When we picture our team we picture that type of player on our team," he said. "He's got speed and grit. He doesn't mind using it and fighting when he needs to fight.

"If he goes (to Manitoba) and does what he's shown us in the two games he did play, he'll be back with us in the future."

I thought Mike Brown would make the team. He brought a level of physical play to the Canucks very badly needed, much like McIver and Rypien.

No room for him, Rypien is higher in the depth charts then Brown

Big surprise. With the Canucks claiming useless Mike Weaver on waviers, McIver is now on his way to Manitoba.
