Canucks Recall Cody Hodgson
Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that centre Cody Hodgson has been recalled from the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.
Hodgson, 20, has appeared in 28 games for Manitoba this season, recording 16 points (10-16-26) in the 2010-11 season. The Toronto, Ontario native was originally drafted by the Vancouver Canucks 10th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

That's one young man I want to see succeed , he is one of the nicest , unassuming , softest spoken players I have ever met , he is "SHY" to a fault .

Not happening.
Cody is a huge part of the 'Nucks future, and our #1 prospect. Considering we are so tight against the cap, we need young players with a big upside, on entry level deals. He has 0 points in 4 games in the 'Peg since returning from the fractured orbital bone, and has to play with a full cage; doesn't seem like this is the best time to recall him, but the team needs someone to center the 4th line... |

That's how it should be, and I have full confidence that he will work his way into the lineup. But you can't just hand the 2nd line center job to Hodgson before he's ever played an NHL game. That kinda stuff may fly in Edmonton, but Vancouver is tied for first in the league.

Yeah, the back didn't really get sorted out until training camp. Hodgson has reportedly made a full recovery. He had a bit of a slow start in Manitoba coming off the injury, but then turned it on, scoring at a great pace until he broke his orbital bone getting accidentally clubbed by a teammate in practice. He returned from that injury to play a couple games with the Moose, and was subsequently called up.

However, from what I've read, while his top end speed has more or less caught up to where it was, his acceleration is still not up to par. He is slow off the get go, but his top end speed is back to normal. This is likely (hopefully) just going to take some time to catch up as he missed so much hockey. He has been dominant at times in the 'Peg. He started off very slowly (I believe 1 or 2 goals in his first 8 games), and then got it going nicely. That was at a time when that entire club was really having a hard time scoring. Quote:
As Steve states above, this is a very deep team, and he will not be handed a prime role like you would have seen on previous 'Nuck teams. He will have to show he can play and contribute on the 4th line. If he does well there, they will give him additional responsibilities. For this season, his top end potential is that he does well enough to warrant a move to the 3rd line. If he really shows promise there, he can be moved to the wing temporarily, and given special teams ice time at his natural position. This is a great problem to have. If he stays healthy, having Sedin, Kesler and Malhotra around will only help him. It takes the pressure off him to have to do too much too soon. We don't need him to put up numbers. He can also learn different aspects from 3 pretty good players. I think his initial acceleration will determine how long he stays up. |

I like the fact he's getting an opportunity - on the fourth line he won't be expected to provide much offense, but just getting a taste of NHL regular season action and get his debut out of the way, on the road, with not much pressure on him could be a really good thing for him. And if he plays well enough that its too hard to send him down, then all the better - if not, then at least he got some experience that should serve him better for next season.
Feels like we've been waiting for an eternity to see this though....
