Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that defenceman Nathan McIver has been re-assigned to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.

McIver, 23, has split the 2007-08 season between the Manitoba Moose and Vancouver Canucks. He recorded 36 penalty minutes in 11 games with the Canucks and four points (2-2-4) and 74 penalty minutes in 31 games with the Moose.

McIver, made his NHL debut during the 2006-07 season, playing one game with the Canucks. The 6-foot-2, 205 lbs. native of Summerside, Prince Edward Island played 63 games with the Moose last season, recording 139 penalty minutes.

(Bieksa is back)

IMO, that's the reason.

Nailed it.

McIver did well for the Canucks in a very tough situation.

But now the blue line is getting healthier, Bieksa came back, and boom, no more room for McIver, who's still not ready for full time NHL duty anyways. He'll get more playing time in the AHL, and the Canucks have a stronger defence corps headed down the stretch to the playoffs.

McIver looked good during his time up with the Canucks - I think he impressed and surprised a lot of people. Look for him to make another serious run at a full time rpster spot next fall, especially if either Edler or Bourdon are traded at the deadline.

Bahh. Oh well, he's been fun while he's been up.

With Kevin Bieksa coming back, there was just no room for Nathan. Hopefully the Nucks liked what they seen from him and give him the 6th or 7th defenseman spot next year.

Why is Mike Brown still in Winnipeg? When he was sent down at the All Star break, a couple of you said it was just to get him playing time and he'll be right back up after the break.
Seems to me like he played well and did his job when he was up with the Canucks.

Just no room for him. Shannon, Raymond and Isbister are all playing well lately, meaning they'll stay in the lineup. If one of them goes down, Brown will likely be the first callup.
