Canucks Re-Sign Lee Goren

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have re-signed right winger Lee Goren.

Goren, 28, split the 2005-06 season between the Canucks and the Manitoba Moose, playing 28 games with Vancouver, tallying three points (1-2-3) and 30 penalty minutes. In 42 games with Manitoba last season, Goren scored 22 goals, 19 assists (22-19-41) and had 84 penalty minutes. Goren has played a total of 65 career NHL games recording nine points (5-4-9) and 44 penalty minutes.

The 6’2”, 210 lbs., native of Winnipeg, Manitoba was originally drafted by the Boston Bruins, 63rd overall in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. Goren played with two NHL teams, the Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers, before being acquired by Vancouver as a free agent on July 7, 2004.

correct me if i'm wrong, but goren will drop the gloves when he needs to. at least a little toughness for the 'nucks.

Goren had Four Fights last year.

I don't mind Goren but at the same time it isn't like I am really hoping he makes the team.

Then again this team has nobody and it doesn't appear a tough guy will stand a chance in hell of making the team. So as pathetic as it may sound, a guy like Goren might be our best hope.

Good to see someone with any sort of glove dropping ability left on the 'Nucks. The least they can do is keep someone to put up with guys in the division. May, McCarty, Greene/Winchester and Boogaard are going to steam roll the Nucks without anything resembling a "tough" guy. Goren will need to step up on many levels to fill the toughness void for the Nucks, if they dont pick up a free agent.

I know what you mean. Goren is a big kid with decent hands, that can stand in front of the net and get goals in the AHL. He hasn't got good speed, so he may not stick in the NHL, but he fights to show that he wants to stay with the big club.

i liked him at the start of last year when he was hitting and fighting , but then fell outta favour with him when he start to dog it out on the ice( not atempting to hit anyone , or fighting, basically looking lazy). hopefully things have changed and he plays with some more heart . otherwise i think i could do without.

I know it sounds silly but the Nucks have still Kevin Bieska who can at least hang on with McCarty or Winchester/Greene.
Anyway more toughness would be great for them.

Bieksa is pound for pound one of the toughest in the AHL/NHL. But again he is not a heavyweight.
Better than Goren though.

No, he isn't a Heavyweight or a real Fighter,
but he can drop them and does usually very well.
When McCarty or Winchester runs for example their Goali I am sure bieska is there to fight them
and I am sure he will have a good chance to win!

But for sure he wouldn't look good against May or Boogard.

Anyway at least they have Bieska, a good Defender who can drop them very well.

They now need atleast a guy like Jason Wiemer or Jeremy Stevenson.

I know they have Bieksa but that still isn't enough. Bieksa can hang with the middleweights but if someone like Derek Boogaard runs Naslund who is going to step up? Nobody. If Bieksa tried he'd get destroyed.

Bieksa is definitely better than Goren. But the Canucks really lack grit and toughness on the 3rd and 4th lines. Which is why I'm hoping for some more toughness in the near future.
