Canucks Re-Sign Eddie Lack to Two-Year Contract

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have re-signed goaltender Eddie Lack.

Lack, 24, appeared in 46 games with the AHL Chicago Wolves in 2011.12 finishing with a record of 21-20-3. The Norrtalje, SWE, native finished the season with a 2.31 GAA, ranking ninth in the AHL in that category. In five Calder Cup playoff games last season, he posted a 2.17 GAA to rank seventh among AHL goaltenders in the playoffs.

The 6’5”, 197 lbs. goaltender was originally signed by Vancouver as a free agent on April 6, 2010.

Craig MacTavish thinks he's ready for the big show so should be a good backup for Schneider the day Luongo is traded (hopefully sooner than later). Waiting in the wings is Joe Cannata, possibly another nice prospect with NHL potential and signed earlier this year. Goaltending is not something the Canucks need to worry about for probably the next 10 years.

If the Canucks can get Gudbranson or Huberdeau for Luongo, I would be happy.

I don't know if Gillis would do it, he has gone on the record that he is waiting for a deal that makes sense for the Canucks and getting a 3rd/4th line player doesn't seem to jive with what they think Luongo is worth. There is always Toronto, they'll offer two first rounders or something insane to get him.

gillis should take what he can get because whatever team takes luongo off his hands, is doing him a ginormous favor.

either way, there is very little chance imo of gillis landing one of the two you mentioned or bjugstad.

The Leafs offered Luke Schenn (prior to trading him to Philly) and that dip **** Gillis turned it down. He isn't going to get a better offer than that, IMO. He is going to have to swallow his pride at some point and accept a lot less than he feels Luongo is worth.

Hey, I don't disagree with you and Chilly about Gillis re-evaluating his expectations but there may be a small-minded GM out there who will overpay for a declining commodity and I bet that is what Gillis is waiting for.

Maybe. Maybe not. It's a big risk, IMO. And not one worth taking. The Roberto Luongo today is not the same Luongo teams would have sought after several years ago. Teams know the Canucks are handcuffed. They have two starting goaltenders and neither one of them wants to be a back up. That has a potential team distraction written all over it. I'm betting Gillis has to bite the bullet and accept a lot less than he would like.

to get matthias and someone like kulikov (possibly) is something that gillis should not pass up. it's a decent return for a guy who has failed and is vastly overpaid.

lack's contract is a two-way in year one, one-way in year two.

Last week heard Laurence Gilman (Canucks' VP Operations) on the radio and he mentioned he was in a heated conversation with Lack's agent, Kurt Overhardt. I wouldn't be surprised if it was over the first year of Lack's contract being a two-way.

Or over Kesler again.
