Canucks place Hordichuk, O'Brien on waivers

Quote:
The Vancouver Canucks placed left-winger Darcy Hordichuk and defenceman Shane O'Brien on waivers Saturday afternoon.

In 56 games with the Canucks last season, Hordichuk recorded only two points to go along with his 142 penalty minutes. Originally drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in 2000, Hordichuk has also played with the Nashville Predators, Phoenix Coyotes and Florida Panthers.

O'Brien, who has spent the last two seasons with the Canucks, registered two goals and six assists in 65 regular season appearances last year. He was drafted 250th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in 2003.

Apparently the Senators are thinking about starting the season with Hale in the top 6... If that is the case, give me SOB any day.

I kinda feared this, but then again, I'm not really surprised that this happened.

I haven't seen much pre season action, but from what I can tell and have read, Andrew Alberts has been good and pretty much won a roster spot over SOB, and Hordi has been, well, unspectacular and kind of faded into the background while a large number of younger, and apparantly hungrier players are fighting for a spot on that fourth line.

Take into account the Canucks cap situation, and something had to give, especially for either O'Brien or Alberts. Hordi has been something of a disappointment the last couple seasons.

Anyhow - hope they both clear, work their butts off in Manitoba, and find their way back to the show a bit more motivated.

Hale in the top 6? Yikes.

7th defenseman at most.

I'd like Phoenix to try for O'Brien as a 7th d-man and can jump in if a veteran gets hurt or if OEL does not work as planned.

With Kuba out with a broken leg, it comes down to Cowen, Lee or Hale, and rumours have said Hale has the inside track to be the third pairing D man on opening day. Just brutal.

Neither of these guys are anything special but it always sucks to see fighters lose their jobs. Hopefully a team like Montreal or Buffalo picks one of these guys up but I certainly won't be holding my breath...

Horduchuk rejected the thought of even coming to Carolina when we acquired his rights, Let him sit in the A. O'Brien on the other hand I think is a good player and he's not afraid to drop the gloves on occasion. I think (and kinda hope) he gets picked up. Boston,Ottawa, and Columbus I know have been complaining about their blueline so at this guy has experience and from what I've seen is a decent player.
