Canucks' Jannik Hansen Suspended One Game for Roughing

NEW YORK -- Vancouver Canucks forward Jannik Hansen has been suspended for one game for roughing Chicago Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa in NHL Game No. 232 in Chicago on Tuesday, February 19, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Hansen will forfeit $7,297.30. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 1:10 of the third period. Hansen was assessed a minor penalty for roughing.

The far away angle is his best defense but there's no arguing when Hossa's body (specifically head) came in to his bubble he ditched going for the fly ball and turned it to an elbow.

It's scarier because of the victim's history. But one game is semi-fair, it wasn't malicious intent from the onset. Or something.

I truly hope there's some retribution paid next game... Carcillo isn't no feared tough-guy but I miss that guys energy and the way he'd wreck havok if he wasn't sidelined next go-around with Bollig as well....... one can only dream here fellas!!

Holy ****! Just one game?! Phew, was worried for a second. Since Keith got nothing for the incident last season I'm okay with this. I wish they'd call Vandermeer up for the game but that'll never happen.

I guess Hossa is untouchable (as far as the refs/league is concerned), I still believe the Torres hit was a clean open-ice hit on a guy who had the puck. Torres did not leave his feet. The Keith hit on Sedin was a deliberate attempt to injure, when Keith was confronted he chickened out, his suspension was a gift, he got to rest, the loss of Sedin probably cost the Canucks the 1st round vs LA. Hansen was clearly reaching for the puck, not Hossa's head, it was embellishment at its finest. Shanahan has no idea what he is doing.
