Vandy is getting older I dont think we will see a lack luster version. If he hopes to resign or sign else where next year. I would get tired of the bs that fallows the nucks tho

Vandermeer is older and past his prime no doubt but will certainley add that element of toughness on the blue-line. I hope he plays his physical game with the Canuckleheads and not what he was doing out in Phoenix!

what vancouver needs to do is aquire one more guy who can fight to share the load. otherwise Jim vandermeer is the canucks #1 enforcer. which is b.s . unless of course he is up for the job. with a lesser challange being in the west minus a few teams. if we were out east another story....

All in all tho, i am over joyed that he has signed.

Vandy ain't that old he's only 32, history shows NHL tough guys tend to peak around that age.

Vandy's last couple seasons have been solid, some really good fights in there

I like Vandermeer but something tells me we will see the same Vandermeer we saw in Phoenix. The one with no interest in physicality or fighting. Largely due to coaching philosophies, IMO but nonetheless disappointing. I hope I'm wrong though.
Never stopped Rypien.

i wish the sharks kept him but they are too deep on blue line. i am glad jimmy got signed but wish it was 1 way and sureto play along with another team. however i am glad VAN got toughness to make the season more fun.

I've been a fan of Jim V. since way back in his Flyers days. A guy who shows up each night, and is tough as nails. Those fights with Cam were awesome. Vandermeer seems to hardly every gas in a fight, and if he was so undersized could probably fair much better as a role in being a fighter. He'll add depth to the D and some added toughness for the Canucks.

More the exception than the rule wouldn't you say? When Rypien was around the Canucks had a different type of team. They actually had a decently tough team for new NHL standards. That hasn't been the case the past couple of years. Either way I doubt you even watched much of the Phoenix Jim Vandermeer I'm talking about. Trying to compare him to Rypien is like comparing apples to oranges.

I fear Vandemeer will not play much in Vancouver, don't they have a lot of d-men already? Ballard, Edler, Bieksa, Garrison, Hamhuis, Joslin, Tanev, Barker, Alberts...where does Vandemeer fit in there?
