Canucks Claim Kris Beech Off Waivers

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have claimed centre Kris Beech off of waivers.

Beech, 26, joins the Canucks from the Columbus Blue Jackets where he played 16 games, scoring nine points and recording two penalty minutes in the 2007-08 season. Beech played an additional 16 games with the Syracuse Crunch, recording 15 points (5-10-15) in 16 games. Over a seven-season NHL career with four teams, Beech has played a total of 189 games and registered 65 points (24-41-65) and 111 penalty minutes.

The 6’3”, 211 lbs. native of Salmon Arm, British Columbia was originally selected by the Washington Capitals in the first round, seventh overall, of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

Man, are the Canucks desperate to get some consistent secondary offense - I don't think this is the answer though. Beech used to be such a bonafide blue chip prospect, the center of that Jagr trade years ago, and so far he's choked everywhere he's been. You have to think he's running out of chances...

Still, if Nonis is serious about getting this team somewhere in the playoffs, his going to have to pony-up and make an actual trade for a legit top 6 forwardm and part with one of these young d-men. Waiver pick ups and signing 3rd and 4th line players aren't going to cut it.

If anything this will produce more depth on the farm....

he had 9 points in 16 games for the pathetic Blue Jackets, so I wouldn't say he completely failed there.

maybe he's more of a cancer in the locker room??
i don't know the guy, so that's pure speculation.
