Canucks Add Andrew Alberts From Hurricanes
Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have acquired defenceman Andrew Alberts from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a 2010 third-round draft selection.
Alberts, 28, has played in 62 games this season for the Carolina Hurricanes, registering 10 points (2-8-10), 74 penalty minutes and a plus-7 ranking. The Minneapolis, MN, native has played in 325 NHL games, collecting 42 points (4-38-42) and 366 penalty minutes. In eight NHL playoff games he has registered one point (0-1-1) and 10 penalty minutes. The 6’5”, 218-pound defenceman was originally drafted in the sixth round, 179th overall by the Boston Bruins in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Well, there's the depth defenseman we've been talking about the Canucks acquiring all day, for an OK cost as well.
With Bieksa still a ways away from playing, Mitchell perhaps done for the year, and Salo expected to get hurt again, this was a must. Alberts can jump into the third pairing, eat some minutes, and provide some grit on the backend. Not a bad trade, definitley better than nothing. I'd take Alberts over Baumgartner and maybe even Rome right now, so this is good.
