Canucks Acquire Pettinger; Send Cooke to Washington
Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that left wing Matt Pettinger was acquired from the Washington Capitals in exchange for left wing Matt Cooke.
Pettinger, 27, joins the Canucks from the Washington Capitals where he has recorded seven points (2-5-7) and 25 penalty minutes in 56 games played in 2007-08. The 6’1”, 205 pound left winger has spent seven seasons with Washington, registering 99 points (52-47-99) and 169 penalty minutes in 334 career games. The Edmonton native, who resides in Victoria, has represented Canada in two international competitions. He played for Canada at the 2006 World Championship and scored four goals in seven games at the 2000 World Junior Championship. |
At least you spelled Cooke's name right this time.
Washington looks to be making a playoff push in a big way. |
Great. This should really help the Southeast division.
Can't wait until O'Brien or Roy go after this little puke. Hopefully Andre still has one more sucker punch left in him  |
Capitals are very active
|
Good riddance to Cooke... glad he's leaving the West.
At least the 'Nucks still have Kesler & Burrows to despise. |
Thank god. Maybe now I'll be able to watch the Canucks play without wanting to kill that gutless puke.
|
Damn - I had a feeling Cooke would be on the move today. I have mixed feelings about this one. I guess Burrows and Kesler can take on the shi!t disturbing duties now. Burrows is a much cheaper option anyway.
Oiler, Flames and Wild fans are rejoicing right now. Vancouver media had just reported that neither Cooke or Byron Ritchie were skating with the team this morning. Whats the 411 on Pettinger? His numbers are down big time this season after breaking out with 20 in 2006. Is that because he no longer plays with Ovechkin? |
Huet,Federov and now Cooke....looks like Washington is making a push. Good pickups....especially Huet.
|
Oh and one thing to note.
Could this trade possibly bring about a few more fights from Donald Brashear this season? |

He'll be used to it from their days together in Vancouver - unless Donald's sick of that, of course |
Good. Great to see that ****ing bastard gone. Although, I must admit it will likely take something away from a hell of a rivalry.

The one Canuck I wanted to see go. Hooray!
Can anyone give us a scouting report on Pettinger? Not that I really care as long as he's cheaper than Cooke. This just made my day. :) PS: There are reports that Byron Ritchie might have been traded as well, as he isn't skating today. Would hate to see him go... |

I like to hear that Pettinger is an offensive guy. That's exactly what we need! |
