Canadiens Trade Grabovski to Toronto
MONTREAL - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey today Thursday the acquisition of defenceman Greg Pateryn along with the Toronto Maple Leafs’ second round pick in 2010, in return for forward Mikhaïl Grabovski.
Greg Pateryn, 18, was selected in the fifth round by the Maple Leafs, 128th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in Ottawa. Last season, in his first campaign in the United States Hockey League, Pateryn led the Ohio Jr. Blue Jackets defencemen with 27 points (3 goals, 24 assists) in 60 games. He also led his team with 145 penalty minutes. The Royal Oak, Michigan native was also named to the Eastern Division Team in the USHL Prospects/All-Star Game and received USHL Defensive Player of The Week honors in March. Pateryn, 6-2, 212 pounds, will join the University of Michigan for the 2008-09 season. Mikhaïl Grabovski was selected by the Canadiens in the fifth round, 150th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He played 27 career regular-season games over the past two seasons with the Canadiens, recording nine points (3 goals, 6 assists). |

Assets Is an outstanding playmaker and offensive forward. Has performed well in big games overseas and at the AHL level. Flaws Lacks ideal size for the center position. Must adjust to the physical nature of the NHL game in order to play regularly. Career potential Top six forward.

I don't think this move is as "LOL Leafs" as people make it out to be. He's not an AHLer, he's a prospect. The guy wasn't gonna make the Habs with their depth, but he'll be given a spot in Toronto.
It's kinda risky for Toronto because he seems like a boom or bust player. But there's plenty of talent there for him to make an impact. I'm not gonna say I like the trade...not the type of player I'm hoping for right now, but this isn't a JEFF FINGER move. Montreal got decent return on the trade. |

Cliff Fletcher is one silly b*tch. He signs tough defencemen, and soft forwards, (except Mayers of course). I just don't get it. Their toughest forwards are now Mayers, Newbury and Bell. Is that gonna be their checking line???
