Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today the signing of forward Michael Ryder to a one-year contract (2005-06).
Ryder, 25, will begin his second season in the Canadiens uniform. In 2004-05, he was the top scorer of the Leksands hockey team in Sweden. He registered 48 points in 32 games (27 goals, 21 assists) and 32 penalty minutes.
Ryder played in 81 of the Canadiens’ 82 games in 2003-04. He ranked second on the team in scoring with 63 points (25 goals, 38 assists). He was runner-up for the Calder Trophy awarded to the NHL’s Rookie of the Year and was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team.
Ryder was selected by the Canadiens in the eighth round, 216th overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
