Canadiens Sign Colby Armstrong
BROSSARD – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced Sunday the signing of free agent forward Colby Armstrong to a one-year contract (2012-13). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Armstrong, 29, notched three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in 29 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2011-12. He served nine penalty minutes, registered 14 shots on goal and 37 hits, while averaging 9:19 of ice time per game. Armstrong missed 42 games due to injuries. Since his debut in 2005-06, Armstrong has registered 204 points (87 goals, 117 assists) in 439 NHL regular-season games. The 6’2’’, 195 lbs forward has scored 12 of his goals on the powerplay, four on the penalty kill and added 12 winning goals. Armstrong has served 364 penalty minutes and displays a +23 plus/minus differential. He has produced one assist in five career NHL playoff contests. A native of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Armstrong was the Pittsburgh Penguins’ first pick (first round, 21st overall) at the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to joining the Canadiens, Armstrong played with the Penguins, Atlanta Thrashers and Maple Leafs during his NHL career. Last edited by chilly666; 07-02-2012 at 06:24 PM. |

Short term and low salary for a rugged player... better than a soft euro, but still hasn't win a single fight in the NHL.

Good signing if he stays healthy. Agitators tend to start sh1t, sh1t that the Canadiens won't be able to clean up with Travis Moen alone. This could be a good and bad signing for the Habs.

Good signing, gritty guy. Didnt Dennis Seidenburg beat him down last year? Im sure he'll search Seids out for a rematch.

You know those agitators everyone hates because they'll play on the edge, but never defend themselves? That's the opposite of Colby Armstrong.... unfortunately for his sake, he's a terrible fighter... but at least he won't just skate away or turtle, that already puts him a step above all those other pets in my books.
But fighting aside, when he is healthy he is a solid, solid hockey player.. one of the best board players and muckers I've ever watched...he'll win 90% of puck battles and always make the safest play, could be a huge steal if he stays healthy for the Habs |

Gregory Campbell hasnt either, but he's still an effective player. Chips in with some offense, hits, sticks up for teamates, fights! You dont really need to win them, just step up when its called upon. Character signing imo. Colby provides grit, that Montreal lacked last year until White and Staubitz entered the line-up.
