He may have the talent of Doughty, but talent only gets you so far. What other intangibles does he bring to the table to be worth that kind of money right now? He has some more work to do, IMO, before he can command that salary, and that is the message Bergie sent with this deal.

When you look at his career start, he's put up better numbers than Kris Letang in every category over the same period. That's pretty solid company, and he compares favorably with elite defensemen in every category. Bergevin does a good job of getting his bridge deal and setting precedent for other younger players looking for big money, while Subban gets a decent money deal for 3.75 both years (pro rated this year would be 3.75) and a chance to prove he's worth huge money for a long term deal. This deal keeps Subban an RFA and gives Montreal a chance to clear Kaberle and possibly Gionta's money off their cap when it's time to pay Subban.

Kudos to Marc Bergevin, he stuck to his guns and didn't cave in to the pressure.

im not arguing that subban is bad, im saying this:

they interviewd habs players this morning and their answers werent very positive about subban coming back with the team.

Q: "is subban still part of the team in your mind?"

josh gorges: we"ll see, we're the same team than last year but were winning because we think as a team so i expect that from pk
markov: hes not in the locker room actually

subban is a ****ing cancer get him off this team. were a better team without him hes not good enough to justify rotting the whole locker room. if he was that good players would be very happy but the list of players that didnt like him in montreal is very long and it include veteran softies like gill and hamerlik.

i definitly hope the next guy tobe mad at him at practice is an hot head kid like white.

Some great and funny posts here. Personally I'm not a habs fan and see both sides. Subban could make the team better but not until he plays for the crest on the front of his jersey first. His act obviously wears on guys. To me it looks like he needs to be left alone in the locker room with Prust to straighten a few things out.

Great job by Bergevin. Book is still out on Subban and giving a long term big $ deal could have really handcuffed the team down the road!

Jesus he plays hard in practice and has one almost fight with Maxwell a career fourth liner at best and he's a cancer? The other two plays that were battles that got heated. Big deal... Koivu hitting Ribeiro in the head with a stick is a little more violent than that... I don't recall trading Rivet for beating the **** out of Dagenais. Corson made the team by beating up John Kordic.

That "cancer" you're talking about was arguably the best 22 year old defenseman in the league last year and will only improve. Wake up man, Subban is an elite defenseman in the NHL. The whole Gill calling him an asshole thing was proven to be taken out of context (in Montreal!!!) by a French reporter. I know it's tough to believe!

Slice it anyway you want but the guy clearly has some issues. If he is so valuable why didn't the Habs sign him to a big long term contract. Or why didn't another team acquire him. The Corson, Rivet,Koivu points are somewhat mute at this point and both are one time isolated incidents. It's clear the kid has some issues and his teammates have acted upon it both verbally and physically.

That 's not to say he couldn't turn things around in Montreal and become a star defenseman!

BROSSARD, Que. -- It wasn't exactly smiles and high fives in the Montreal Canadiens dressing room on Tuesday over the news that P.K. Subban's contract dispute had finally ended.

In fact, the mood was surprisingly chilly on a team that started the lockout-delayed NHL regular season 3-1-0 without the flashy player who was their top defenceman last season.

Subban signed a two-year US$5.75 million contract Monday night and will rejoin the club Wednesday in Ottawa, although when he will play his first game has yet to be determined.

Veteran rearguard Andrei Markov refused to talk about it, saying "He's not in the room yet, so let's talk about it when he's going to be in the room."

And Josh Gorges, Subban's regular defence partner, steered around questions on how he felt.

"To be honest, I'm glad that we don't have to talk about it any more," said Gorges. "It's a non-issue now and we can focus on getting ready to play the games without anything else to think about."

They didnt sign him long term for the same reason they didnt with guys like Price, and we know how valuable Price is to the team.

What other 22 year old do the Habs have that can eat up 25 plus minutes a game? If Markov goes down, he's great to have around.

I am not trying to say that he's not a good player or valuable to his team. He has some growing up to do if he wants to sign a Big ticket like doughty and a few others. That's a lot of money and time to invest in a player that has his baggage .

I don't think I'm alone here or he may have got what he and his agent wanted!!!

i have enough of the "subban da best player in da world" and "with subban well win the stanley cup" crowd... them who are happy too have him on the team...

gill vs subban
Hal Gill calls PK Subban an A-hole

subban vs coaching staff (cunneyworth - ladouceur)
http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/333915.html

hamerlik vs subban
"You would wish to break your stick on PK's head" - Roman Hamrlik

lockeroom not exited about subbans return...
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=414754

hes not liked amongst his own team... thats only the 2 first seasons of his career.... his not liked by other players around the league (lupul, richards, etc)... hes flopping... hes diving... cry to the referee... turtle...

i will never say that subban is a bad player he has so much talent, but no matter how much talent a guy has, if he as no respect for the game and if he has no respect for his teamates and if he has no respect for the logo... and only care about the #76 in the back... i dont want this thrash on my team...sorry

if any of you knows french, you would like to see sylvain guimond's (phd in sport psychology) interview on rds where he says subban maybe very good on the ice but his antics annoy the rest of the team and corrupts the "esprit de corps", ike the team spirit... ppl on this message board woould love to see this video because he explains why fights and fighters are necessary...

A Québécois "pure laine" really don't like Subban eh? Obviously you just posted 90% of the same things from the first one you made. Subban vs coaching staff? You mean the same coaching staff that lead the Habs to a last place finish in the Eastern conference last year? Roman Hamrlik? The same guy who had the entire hockey world mad at him for saying the players should take the owners deal? The guy was ostracized by his own union. PK also made Hamrlik expendable. Again you state his teammates hate him - you obviously chose to ignore his relationship with Price, the comments made by Eller and others that were given significant burial by the Montreal Media.

The truth behind the Gill/Subban "incident"was written by Arpon Basu and it can be found here:
http://montreal.ctvnews.ca/mobile/da...arded-1.573596

Habs beat reporter even states was just sensationalist journalism on something he felt wasn't important enough to write about.

Keep going though, the Bruins fans are liking your posts and tone
