Canadiens Re-Sign Blake Geoffrion
MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced Monday the signing of forward Blake Geoffrion to a one-year, two-way contract (2012-13). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The 24-year old Geoffrion played 35 games with the Canadiens and the Nashville Predators in 2011-2012. He registered five points (2 goals, 3 assists), 40 hits and 27 penalty minutes, playing an average of 11:02 minutes per game. In his second year in professional hockey, he also played with the Milwaukee Admirals and Hamilton Bulldogs in the AHL, recording 21 points (6 goals, 15 assists) in 29 games. Acquired by the Canadiens in a transaction with Nashville involving defenseman Hall Gill, the 6’01’’, 190 lbs forward collected 13 points (8 goals, 5 assists) in 55 regular season games in the NHL. Geoffrion added two assists in 12 playoff games in 2010-11, along with a +1 plus/minus ratio. A native of Plantation, Florida, Geoffrion was drafted in the second round, 56th overall by the Predators at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He was awarded the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, as the Top U.S. Collegiate Player in 2010. Last edited by chilly666; 07-16-2012 at 01:11 PM. |

He's just the typical 1st line AHLer that is never going to produce in the NHL, just like Aaron Palushaj or Mathieu Darche. |

AAron Palushaj"s problem is size, his is under six foot and under 200lbs, so basically he doesn't fit on a third or fourth line of grinders, and he is not skilled enough to be a top six player, so basically he is our new Ben Maxwell.... I think Louis Leblanc and Blake Geoffrion are both going to be prototypical third liners in the NHL, both guys are going to take a bit more time to develop.. I see in the next few seasons Lars Eller being moved up to a second line, and Louis Leblanc, Blake Geoffrion and Travis Moen or Brandon Prust, being a very effective third line for the Habs.... |

The bad shot part is not the end of the world, he goes to the next and uses his stature infront of the net, that is a good thing that the Habs lack, guys that are willing to go to the dirty areas, and fight for loose pucks.... I watched Blake play in Montreal, he was not as bad as you are putting him, I think you are more mad at the fact that he might take the spot of a guy that is more willing to drop the gloves, remeber this is going to be Blake's third season out of Colledge hockey, he still needs to develop more on both sides of the puck.... Blake plays a decent two way game, he played 55 games in the NHL and is +3, witch means that he is a better defensive player than you think, I would understand if he was a minus 10 of 15, but he is a plus player, so I think there is more a two way game than you think..... You have the right to you opinion, but I have watch Blake play at the Bell center, and think you might be selling him a bit short...... |
