Canadiens' Max Pacioretty to Have Disciplinary Hearing; No Discipline Taken By NHL

Montreal Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty faces a hearing Sunday afternoon with the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety for an incident in a Saturday night game against the New York Rangers.

Pacioretty was assessed a minor for boarding Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh at the 7:20 mark of the second period of the game at the Bell Center. McDonagh left the game and did not return.

The Department of Player Safety will be examining boarding and/or charging infractions as the basis for potential Supplemental Discipline during the hearing.

Montreal won the game, 3-0.

Didn't deserve a hearing, and barely warranted a penalty IMO.

The referee that is 15 feet away doesn't call a thing, and is much closer to the play.

The dumb ass 150 feet away makes this call.

Yeah honestly he was gliding and not jumping at full speed at McDonagh. I hate calling out Rangers like McDonagh and Nash but they are playing stupid by not protecting themselves for the bodycheck!
There was nothing wrong with that hit. I blame McDonagh for not anticipating the hit and turning and having his elbow up to protect himself.
Nash left himself exposed with Lucic and goddamn McDonagh did the same thing last night!
This is 2013 NHL and everyone knows that the other defenseman or the winger can't hold up the forward like the old days and the defenseman is exposed if they don't protect themself and anticipate the hit from behind! If you look at the play, Stralman could of slowed up Pacioretty and didn't do a thing to get in his way! He couldn't do what was done for years before the lockout ended 8 years ago but he still could of slowed him up and ignored him!
Players going for the puck along the boards have to use their elbows and anticipate getting hit from behind and protect themself!

Clearly Chara could not have picked a better guy to try and decapitate with the stansion. Gutless rat bastard, if you have a problem with the hit you took, man up and challenge McDonough, who is hardly the heavyweight champion of the league.

Likewise, the fact that nobody put this sh*t back in the hospital for taking that run is embarassing and I'm sick of this team constantly refusing to address anything despite having a few guys in the lineup who can do it. Apparently it's ok to kill off Brad Richards lazy hooking penalties but not 2 minutes for instigating.

Max was going to run him, regardless. A few plays earlier, he was boarded along the bench- all be it very softly - but he was out there looking for revenge.

Why Ryan decided to turn into the hit, and really expose himself, I won't know. He had either a forehand option to send it, or he could have soft back hand shuffled it along, he chose to turn into the hit and go strong on the back hand - very wrong answer.

However, all that is moot as Max steams in on him, striding from the face off dot in.

Bad hit, made worse by the hittee, but still a bad hit.

Ahh yes, Gdameo. His face. He had blood on his nose... You think he'll make it?

Watch the replay, Pacioretty isn't charging anyone, has McDonaugh lined up and than McDonaugh turns his back on the play. The announcer even says, "McDonaugh knows he's coming and turns."

The official that is right there, calls nothing.

But you're an expert, with your vast knowledge.

I've called out the Habs over the years more then anyone here by far. Big Jack, a huge Rangers fan called it clean as well.

This is the part that I don't for the life of me understand. What the f*ck is going on with hockey players these days? Why does this keep happening?

McDonagh could have just picked the puck up on his forehand and kept going in the direction where he could see that there was no resistance coming, or chipped it on his backhand and braced for the contact. He instead chooses to reverse his direction at the last second and turns directly into a forechecker while facing the boards. Why put himself in that position?

It's a problem that's crept into the game, and it's being made worse by the fact that Shanahan is running the disciplinarian department like a suspension-happy assh0le.

He did hit him from behind, but I don't think it was really all that vicious. Does not deserve a suspension. And I'm with those saying that players need to stop turning their backs to the forechecker. Get to the puck, clear it out and brace yourself for the hit.
