Cam Janssen Suspended Three Games

NEW YORK - New Jersey Devils forward Cam Janssen has been suspended three games, without pay, as a result of a late hit on Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Tomas Kaberle during the second period of last night's NHL game #968 in New Jersey.

"Supplemental discipline is appropriate for this incident because of the lateness of the hit," said Colin Campbell, NHL Senior Executive Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average salary, Janssen will forfeit $7,220.16. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Janssen will miss Devil's games Mar.4 at home against Boston, Mar. 6 at Philadelphia and Mar. 8 at Pittsburgh. He'll be eligible to return Mar. 10 at Buffalo.

Cam did NOTHING different than about half a dozen other players this year who have not been suspended for identical hits.


Kronwall comes flying across the blueline last week and elbows Lupul right in the fuc!ing head and gives him a concussion... I mean flying elbow... left his feet and everything... no call. No suspension. No media attention.

Janssens hits Kaberle - identical hit to about five others this year - no other players (non-enforcers) suspended... Janssens gets 3 games and the media coverage is unbelievable...

If Cam's name was Kronwall, he'd be fine.

What are you talking about? Janssen left his feet to blinside a guy high while he was 3 feet away from the boards? Of course Kaberle has to keep his head moving in that situation, but that doesn't excuse Janssen from his actions/lack of thought process on the play.

Having said that, the issue is settled as far as the league is concerned. All that remains now is for the guys on the ice to settle it.

Blindsided him? No way. Drury got blindsided. Kaberle was right in front of Janssen and made the mistake of watching his pass instead of Cam coming right at him.

Kaberle getting hurt is the reason for the suspension.

How far he was from the boards is irrelevant. Janssen's actions are what hockey used to be about.
