Buffalo Inks Connolly to Two-Year Extension

Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres have signed forward Tim Connolly to a two-year contract extension.

Connolly (5/7/1981, 6’1, 190 lbs.) has 26 points (11+15) in 29 games this season. Included in Connolly’s 11 goals are three game-winners, two power play goals and one shorthanded goal. The Sabres are 7-1 this season when Connolly scores in a game. With 66 points (18+48) in 77 games over the past two seasons, Connolly is averaging .86 points per game.

Since joining Buffalo in 2001, Connolly has 192 points (57+135) in 304 games. For his career, he has 267 points (81+186) in 467 games with the Sabres and Islanders. Connolly also has 20 points (5+15) in 24 career playoff games with Buffalo.

A native of Syracuse, NY, Connolly was acquired from the NY Islanders along with Taylor Pyatt in exchange for Michael Peca on June 24, 2001. Connolly was originally selected in the 1st round (5th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

TSN also reporting that Connolly was apparently seen leaving HSBC Arena in the last few minutes even though the Sabres’ morning practice starts in about 20 minutes.

Good for Buff and their fans. The Sabres actually kept one of their own. Hopefully he can stay healthy and pay them back.

So that works out to 100,000 a game....IF he plays 90 games over the next 2 seasons. I may be aiming too high though.

Connolly is a good player, but is overdue for another long-term injury.

Stay off of IR for a little while and go on a small hot streak, get a 1 million dollar raise. Like the rest of the Sabres forwards he hasn't scored in a month. Buffalo is just scared of ever losing another player who might be considered decent after the Drury/Briere fiasco so now they overpay everyone (Hecht, Pominville, now Connolly) so they can "keep the group together." Guess what, this group didn't make the playoffs last year, and are in danger of not making it again, but by all means never shake anything up, they'll come around and start working harder eventually.

Agree 100% with this post. 2 years 9 million dollars? Come on that's way to much for a guy who hasn't proven he can play one full season.... ever? What the f.....
