Bruins Trade Zach Hamill To Capitals For Chris Bourque

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals acquired center Zach Hamill from the Boston Bruins in exchange for left wing Chris Bourque, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Hamill, 23, recorded 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) in 41 games last season with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL). The 5’11”, 180-pound center tallied two assists in 16 games with the Boston Bruins in 2011-12. In 20 career NHL games, Hamill has collected four assists and has registered 139 points (44 goals, 95 assists) in 256 career AHL games.

The Vancouver, British Columbia, native was originally drafted by Boston in the first round (eighth overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Hamill won the Bobby Clarke trophy for amassing the most points (93) in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Everett Silvertips during the 2006-07 season.

Bourque, 26, registered 93 points (27 goals, 66 assists) in 73 games with the Hershey Bears in 2011-12. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

If we saw a player like Maxim Sauve last season, I'm guessing we'll see Chris Bourque at least once...

B's were so down on Hamill,i think they would have traded him for a bag of pucks. I can see young Bourque getting in a few games;but what pressure, his old man being a legend and all. Pretty certain they're leaving #77 hanging in the rafters though.

Hamill was a complete bust and disgrace. So glad he's finally gone. Bourque will be a great asset to Providence, especially with how awful they are.

You could tell Hamill just wasn't going to work. I mean wasn't he their top pick the year after Kessel? He had his shot to stick. Don't know anything about Chris Bourque other than his numbers in the AHL look pretty good.

Bourque is a career AHLer. He's got what it takes to succeed at that level, but he stinks in the NHL.

The saddest thing about the Hamill pick at 8th overall for the B's,was Logan Coture went one or two picks later to SJ. Hamill had size and strength issues from day one;think the B's were hoping he'd mature physically and be a top line centerman. Oh well,we took the wrong guy.

If he can turn into a checking type guy, then I can see him playing up. Keith Aucoin did a good job when he was called up to Washington. That guy (Aucoin) is a phenomenal AHLer, but he did a good job when he finally got chance at the ripe old age of 32 to play every playoff game for the caps.

But I don't see it happening yet, Im sure he'll be in the AHL for the most part.
