Bruins Trade Kobasew to Minnesota
BOSTON, MA – Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has acquired a second round draft choice in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, the rights to unsigned draft choice Alexander Fallstrom and forward Craig Weller from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Chuck Kobasew.
Fallstrom, selected in the fourth round (116th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, began his freshman year at Harvard University in September, 2009. A native of Gothenburg, Sweden, he played for Brinken, Lindigo and Djurgarden in Sweden before moving to Minnesota where he attended Shattuck St. Mary’s School from 2007-2009. A senior captain at Shattuck St. Mary’s in 2008-09, Fallstrom led his team with 40 goals and 87 points (40-47=87) in 52 games. In his first season with Shattuck he had 67 points (20-47=67) in 62 games. Weller, a fifth round selection of the St. Louis Blues in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft (167th overall), has played in 95 NHL games with the Phoenix Coyotes and Minnesota Wild and has 4-10=14 totals with 127 penalty minutes. This season, Weller has played five games for the Houston Aeros (AHL) and has one assist and seven penalty minutes. Last season, Weller played in 36 games for the Wild and earned 1-2=3 totals and 47 PIM's. Kobasew was acquired by the Bruins along with Andrew Ference from Calgary in exchange for Brad Stuart, Wayne Primeau and a fourth round draft pick in 2008 on February 10, 2007. This season he has appeared in all seven of the Bruins contests, tallying 0-1=1 totals and 2 penalty minutes. In total, he appeared in 158 games for the Bruins, with 44-40=84 totals. His career NHL totals are 368 games, 78-77=155. |
Did not see this coming.
Looks like a nice return though. Weller's alright, I don't konw who Fallstrom is, but the icing on the cake is the 2nd rd pick. If it was Kobasew for a 2nd rd pick straight up that would've been even as well. |
All that for Kobasew?
|
paging jkidd.
i think it was overpayment. |
Weller isnt much to behold. I guess the Wild really needed someone with Havlat and Sykora out. I dont know how much of a help he'll be. Good salary dump for the B's tho

Just looked up this Fallstrom kid. He was born in the same town as Axelsson, and is gonna be playing with my buddy for Harvard this season.
Hockey's future says he's a power forward in the Holmstrom mold, which is fine, as long as his style doesn't include Holmstrom's all talk no walk shenanigans. |
Wow, the Bruins got a lot in return for Kobasew. Big time overpayment by the Wild.

That seems a lot for Kobasew.....
Good work by the B's then to get that much. Where will Weller sit I wonder? H/S? 4th line? Providence? Will it effect guys like Lefebvre, Bitz, Thornton and the like I wonder? |
Wish Clutterbuck was involved...
|
I like Kobasew, but it does seem like the Wild gave up a lot to get the guy, and the Bruins are able to clear some cap space.

GROSELY over paid for Kobasew , the second round would have been to much , three players is gross overpayment !!!! |
The wild are desperate team but imo that is a little much to give up. As said a 2nd round pick for Kobasew would have been plenty.

Good to see Boston get another energy guy in Weller. Fallstrom is a tough young kid, that plays every shift, usually there for those garbage goals more chances than not.
For anyone wondering who Weller is, heres a nice little peice, from his time in Phoenix.
