Bruins sign Stuart to one-year deal

Edit: Looks like a done deal now...

Quote:
Mark Stuart has signed a one-year, $1.675 million extension. Stuart was a restricted free agent with arbitration rights, but he opted not to file because the sides were close to an agreement.

Stuart was coming off a two-year contract that paid him an average $1.3 million per season. Stuart will be an unrestricted free agent after 2010-11.

Stuart appeared in 56 games in 2009-10, scoring two goals and five assists while logging 80 penalty minutes, third-most behind Shawn Thornton and Zdeno Chara. Stuart, the team's reigning iron man entering the season, missed 26 games because of freak injuries -- a broken sternum, broken pinkie, and infection.

The Bruins have their projected six-man blue line in the fold (Stuart, Chara, Dennis Seidenberg, Johnny Boychuk, Andrew Ference, Matt Hunwick).

Someone explain to me how Mark Stuart took a modest 1.675 million while Andrew Ference, who isn't half as good as Stuart, ROBBED the team of 2.25 mil.

Chiarelli must've been smoking some hi-grade ganja the night he decided to offer Ference a contract.

A good deal for the Bruins if it falls through. Stuart is a solid defenseman and $1.675 million is a great price for him.

Ference is robbing the team no doubt. I would have dumped his ass and used McQuaid as the 6th defenseman. Hell, even Bodnarchuk would be better than Ference.

Stuart is one of the few Bs who I like. I think he should have held out for more money.

I smoke hi-grade ganja all the time & I still thought that was a stupid signing by Chia-pet. Thats no excuse!

I'm glad to see The Caveman back in the fold for another season though. If only all the Bruins had his heart...

Stuart is one of the guys that will be the "unsung" hero that is underpaid and does his job night in and night out.

He is a keeper and I hope they'll sign him long term during next season.

It's easy for Stuart to sign at this price for one year because he will cash in next year as an UFA. He is as SOLID as a third pair D as there is or a good compliment to a more mobile partner on the top four. He was the only Bruin that played with any heart during one stretch of last season. A fierce competitor, glad he's back but would like to see him signed for the long term.

This would have been the year to cash in. This years FA pool was HORRIBLE.
