I have been a big time fan of Lucic ever since his junior days , but 6 million ??

That is the reason we have a lockout , the owners just dont know how to keep their payroll under control , they continue to overpay players every time they do a contract , and ask for so much of it back in compensation .

Makes real sense to me . The owners keep giving the players the big contracts then asking for concessions in the form of taking part of that contract back .
If they used a little common sense in the first place their would be no need for a lockout ..

You said he sucks in the playoffs. Other than the Stanley Cup finals, the Memorial Cup is one of the most pressure filled situations in all of hockey. Yet Lucic rose to the occasion stepped up for his team and won MVP. For someone that "sucks" in that type of situation that is even more impressive don't you think?

I won't bother commenting on the last part of your nonsense. First of all he's 24 years old. In all likelihood he will reach the 30 goal plateau again in the future. 6 empty net goals? Seriously? You are going to go there? Do you realize how many empty net goals someone like Wayne Gretzky scored? I suppose that lessens some of his accomplishments huh?

So what you're saying is Milan Lucic is an elite power forward who is capable of scoring 30 goals in multiple seasons, is a tough player that can handle just about anyone in the NHL, a player that in junior hockey carried his team to the memorial cup as MVP, a unique player that deserves to be the highest paid forward on his team, a player every team world love to have?

Is this what you're telling me? Is this how most people here feel about him?

Elite power forward? Without question. The term power forward is thrown around rather loosely this day and age. As far as I'm concerned there are very few true power forwards left in the NHL. So yes, I would consider Lucic elite in that respect. Is he capable of scoring 30 goals? Absolutely. A tough player that can handle just about anyone in the NHL? For the most part. He's far from the toughest but I do believe he can hang in there with most guys in the league. He's certainly a unique player. There aren't many guys in the league that can play top six minutes and add the physicality and toughness dimension that he brings to the table. Does he deserve to be the highest paid forward on the team? No, IMO. But there are many problems with player salaries league wide. Payrolls and contracts are way out of control. In comparison to many other contracts, $6 million a year for Lucic isn't all that ridiculous. Is he a player every team would love to have? What do you think?

Besides that Lucic isn't the highest paid player on his team, that remains Zdeno Chara.

cookie monster specifically said forward because Lucic is now the highest paid forward on the Bruins.

I have no problem with Lucic being the highest paid forward on the Bruins. I honestly believe that he effects each game more than any other forward on the team. Not only does he have the ability to score 30+ goals, but he makes his presence felt each game with his physicality, toughness and his ability to intimidate opposing players/teams. Not only that, but he creates space for his teammates. That type of player is invaluable these days.

I love Looch as much as the next hockey nut here. But 6 mill per year for him is beyond overpayment!

The owners are digging they're own grave as far as I am concerned and it's hard to get anything done as far as a new agreement between the two parties with bull**** contracts being handed out like this. I'd love to hear what was said about this behind the closed doors..

Is he worth 6 million a season .. ?? to some people yeah why not, ... But in reality and today's economics of the NHL.. Hell no!! Looch brings everything and has the tools to do virtually anything, but to be classified in a bracket of a 6 million dollar contract is absolute insanity.

Keep on digging pigs !

True and all, but nobody cares about what he managed to do in the juniors. He's playing against men now, and in the playoffs he doesn't seem to carry that same style of play that he did in his first couple seasons.

As I mentioned previously, he was playing injured during the 2010 and 2011 playoffs. And it showed as he wasn't as noticeable.
