Bruins Sign Dennis Wideman
BOSTON, MA - Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenseman Dennis Wideman.
The 2007-2008 NHL campaign will be Wideman's second season with the Bruins organization (first full season) after being acquired from St. Louis in exchange for Brad Boyes on February 27, 2007. The 6'0", 200-pound defenseman recorded one goal and two assists with 27 penalty minutes in 20 games with Boston last season. Prior to being traded to the Bruins, Wideman tallied five goals and 17 assists in 55 games with St. Louis last season. Wideman, a Kitchener Ontario native, was originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres with an eighth-round selection (241st overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Wideman was signed by the Blues as a free agent in 2004 and then went on to play his first full NHL season for St. Louis in 2005-2006, recording eight goals, 16 assists and 83 penalty minutes in 67 games. |

I still think that the Bruins need to make a trade for a goal scorer. They have a pretty solid defense, some grinders, a few tough guys, a good goalie and some guys who can distribute and makes some plays (Bergeron, Savard, Kessel, etc.). Glen Murray used to be a perenial 30+ goal scorer, but he's over the hill and injury-prone now. Marco Sturm can put the puck in the net, but he's hot and cold. Bochenski showed some flashes at the end of last season, but he's still new to the NHL.
The B's are in desperate need of a sniper, and, unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any available at the right price. Last edited by MattBurger; 07-11-2007 at 09:47 PM. |
