Bruins Sign David Krejci to Three-Year Extension

BOSTON, MA – Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has signed center David Krejci (pronounced “KRAY-chee”) to a three-year contract extension through the 2014-15 season.

The 25-year-old Krejci was drafted by the Bruins in the 2nd round (63rd overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He has skated in 318 career NHL games – all with Boston – and has registered 62 goals and 165 assists for 227 points. Krejci has tied for the Bruins team lead in points in each of the last two seasons, tallying 52 points in 2009-10 and 62 points in 2010-11. He set career highs in goals, assists, points, games played and plus/minus during the 2008-09 season after tallying 22-51=73 totals in 82 games with a +37 rating.

This season, the 6’0’’, 188-pound Sternberk, Czech Republic native has appeared in 20 games and tallied 4-9=13 totals. He is coming off a three-point performance against the Maple Leafs on Wednesday, November 30 after notching one goal and two assists.

During the Bruins 2010-11 Stanley Cup Championship run, Krejci finished as the NHL’s playoff scoring leader with 12 goals and 11 assists for 23 points in 25 games, becoming the first Bruin to do so since Phil Esposito and Bobby Orr shared the postseason scoring title in 1972. His 12 playoff goals included four gamewinners (three of which came against the Philadelphia Flyers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals) and one hat trick (Game 6 loss versus Tampa in Eastern Conference Finals). He also had the primary assist on Nathan Horton’s gamewinning goal against Tampa in Game Seven that propelled the Bruins to their first Cup Final since 1990.

For his playoff career, Krejci has compiled 44 points in 52 postseason contests with 19 goals and 25 assists.

Internationally, Krejci represented Team Czech Republic at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver in addition to skating for the Czech Republic in two World Junior Championships (2005, 06) and one World Championship (2008).

Collected most points last playoffs, deserved a new contract.

He seems to play his best in big games. He's gotten off to a slow start this season, but he's the Bruins' best playmaker, so a contract extension was warranted as long as he wasn't grossly overpaid.

I've seen 5.25 and 3years/10mil.... that math doesn't add up so it might just be that his cap hit one year is 5.25. Not sure. Either way, I'm glad he's re-signed since it should've been done after winning the Cup, esp with how well he performed.

I don't know if I like this. Sure, he's a great playmaker but he is perhaps the most inconsistent player in the league. And they signed him for a little too much IMO

I myself am not a big fan of his, but those playoff numbers do not lie. And also do not rule out trade bait coming at the deadline, one never knows.

It's not about the points that Krejci puts up, but they obviously play a factor...I'm sure he's paid so much for the things he does that the stat book does not keep track of.

Like this signing a lot. Krejci has earned this raise over the past couple seasons.

Yeah, $5.25MM/year is too much for Krejci. No way he should be making more than Bergeron.

the cap hit is the same for each year of the contract...the salary can be different, but the cap hit is always the same.
