Glad to see people give Shawn the respect he deserves. For a guy his size he's never backed down from a challenge. A great team leader and role model for others to follow. Hope he has a quick recovery.

I hope he is back in 7-10 days, but concussions are tricky. I think the extra angst is bc of Thornton's role. It's bad when a finesse-minded center is concussed, but, in Thornton's case, the odds of him experiencing future trauma to the head in his line of work is pretty high. I don't see how he doesn't take Scott on again for a rematch. I've yet to see him back down, and Ive actually seen him go out of his way to get something going. Speedy recovery, 22

Hopefully I could get my hands on the crystal ball the doctors that diagnosed Thornton have. Can't believe they know when concussion symptoms will go away. Maybe they could tell me who will win the Kentucky Derby this year.

We have seen other fighters in the past struggle to come back after suffering concussions. A simple TKO that would seem fairly easy to bounce back from can fell you for months and even end your career. I think this is why people are wishing Thornton well. That and the fact that Thoronton does his job the right way, carries himself with class. He's a true Bruin in the way he handles himself.

I read an article in the Boston herald on Friday and it stated that Shawn Thornton could easily fit in with any incarnation of the Big bad Bruins. Whether it be with Cashman and Pie or O'Reilly and Wensink/Jonathan or Miller neely Byers. I agree and wish him a speedy recovery.

I thought that, too. I think it's just the initial diagnosis. The hope is the effects will be gone by then. Personally i think he just got his bell rung a little and the team/doctors are playing it safe. Hopefully it's just the 7-10 days.

If the Bruins don't take liberties or play dirty Scott probably won't see the ice. It's up to them.
...what I'm saying is -- as team LEADER and CAPTAIN it's his DUTY to take-on Scott. As home-team, the Bruins had the last move on the face-off, yet Thornton was offered-up as "sacrificial lamb" in this mis-match!
The game was decided in the first two minutes as a result of this fight -- single-handedly beaten by a player who CAN'T shoot,...CAN'T score,...CAN'T pass,...CAN'T skate. Chara's "minutes-played" meant ABSOLUTELY nothing if they aren't productive --- THIS was the opportunity for ANY captain to "step-up."

Thornton was offered up as the sacrificial lamb?? Ever see Chara try to fight lately? Thornton is our enforcer. He's taken on some big mofos in the past. He did his job. end of story.

I'd love to see "any captain" step up against Scott. they would get trounced. then you'd be in here complaining about how it's the enforcer's job, not the captains. most captains in this league wouldn't bat an eye lash at scott.

Agreed. I think "7-10 days" is the new "Get a good night's rest." 20 years ago, he'd probably be back in the line-up the next game unless he was still outwardly showing symptoms. Having him take a week off is a way to protect not only him, but the Bruins organization and NHL to a certain extent. I'm good with that, as head trauma is nothing to mess with anymore.

Teenage and naive post based on not knowing whats regulary going on HF.com

The ŽŽ1st to get KOŽd this yearŽŽ is a traditional thread which is being created before each season starts. Lot of other posters made it in the past, its was not my idea.

The purpose of the thread is to GUESS who will be KOŽd first, not to look forward to it like little kids.

Please be aware of HF.com regular threads before you make yourself being dumb.

From the Crosby and Toews incidents in the recent pass, we know that there are different degrees or classifications of concussions. You could throw the Hossa injury in there also.

srehm1, I hope this is precautionary and that they erring on the side of caution like you suggest.

Pesa, if you get a hold of that crystal ball, could you get the lottery numbers for me. To hell with the Derby.

Viper, good comments.
