Weird.
The dude is a U.S. soldier.
We signed him out of West Point last year and he was supposed to play in Providence. But the Army wouldn't let him go pro or something like that and we had to return him to them.

I guess he's a free man now.
Interested to see him play because I heard he's a tough guy.

yeah the army didn't because he didn't serve his time...it was just like the football player the lions drafted.

if he isn't out of the army, this is just to hold his rights for another year like it ended up being last season.

Yup, sounds about right.

Zach McKelvie remains out of reach of the Bruins while he serves in the U.S. Army.

A second lieutenant, McKelvie signed a one-year free agent contract a year ago after graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

He was in Boston's training camp last fall and was ticketed for Providence when he was unexpectedly recalled to West Point. The Army decided not to allow McKelvie, a swift-skating defenseman, to put off his military service for a year while he pursued a hockey career.

Asked about a rumor that the Army might be reconsidering, Chiarelli replied: "If they're in a position to let him play, we're obviously going to welcome him in. . . . We're not going to make an overt push.''

blackngold,
don't know where you got your info from but he's far from tough, mean or even scrappy. he's very slight and skinney and is more of a euro style skater...from what I heard.
