Brayden Schenn gets 1 game amateur tryout

Schenn joins Kings

The Kings have signed center Brayden Schenn to a one-game amateur tryout agreement. Schenn is at the arena in Vancouver right now and is expected to play for the Kings tonight.

Schenn, coincidentally enough, had been relatively close by, in Victoria, B.C., representing a team of top Canadian junior players in a “Super Series” against Russia. The ATO does not impact Schenn’s amateur status, and it’s possible that he might sign an entry-level contract and stay with the Kings for at least a few more games.

Schenn, the Kings’ first-round pick — No. 5 overall — in this June’s draft, was one of the final cuts in training camp. He struggled a bit upon his immediate return to his junior team — Brandon of the Western Hockey League — but now has 12 goals and 27 assists in 24 games.

Presumably, Schenn will play for the Kings tonight, but it’s not yet known with whom. If Jarret Stoll is out again, it’s probably a safe bet that Schenn will be centering the second line. Each of the top four picks in this year’s draft — John Tavares, Victor Hedman, Matt Duchene and Evander Kane — have already made their NHL debut.

More updates on this soon…

i dont even know how that would work. if they could even do it. maybe somebody more knowledgeable could explain that scenario. because he was sent to the juniors for the year or whatever.

but with loktionov dislocating his shoulder and a roughed up stoll kings could use the center depth.

I think its a stipein of some sorts that he recieves, a amount to play one game.

I beleive if he plays more than 18 NHL games, he is not eligable to return to his respective junior club, he would have to be assigned to the AHL.

But then again I could be wrong. I know with Turris he played x amount of games last year, and wasnt labled as a rookie this year.

I heard Stoll is also suffering from some sort of Arthritis.

But adding Schenn in the game only makes the kings line up even tougher. I just hope we can pull off another win tonight before having to play the blackhawks on saturday.

Keep scratching the wins while Smyth is out!!!

i forget if its both wrists or just one, but hes got arthritis in at least one of em. its been bothering him alot of the offseason and there was even questions if he'd start the season. thats been an ongoing nagging thing for him. but he suffered a "lower body injury" in practice this week that kept him out last night and presumably tonight. but the arthritis might be flaring up too.

How I read it on another site, is that it could be career ending. Right now he is taking some sort of legal steriod shot once a week, seems to be helping a bit. But I guess he has good days and bad days.

I know he is out because of that lower body, I was just stunned to hear about the arthritis, I hope he can play through it the rest of his career.

Because Schenn is not yet signed, he is allowed to play with the Kings. If he was a signed jr. he wouldn't be able to come up. The Kings can keep him around as long as they want, but after the 9 games, his NHL contract would come into play, but he would have to be signed before he could play after tonight.

Actually this is a one day amateur tryout contract and after the game tonight Schenn will have to be assigned back to Brandon.

Besides the fact the Kings looked horrible, he did well for his first game and no practices with the team. He had a few good hits too.

In case there was any question, Dean Lombardi said Brayden Schenn will not be joining the Kings in Los Angeles and will be returning to his junior team. Schenn is not under contract and it seems as though the Kings aren’t ready to sign him yet.
