Brashear, Sutherby and Mellanby Suspended; Hanlon and Hartley Fined
TORONTO – The National Hockey League announced today disciplinary action resulting from NHL game #310 between the Atlanta Thrashers and Washington Capitals, November 22.
Washington Capitals forwards Donald Brashear and Brian Sutherby and Thrashers' forward Scott Mellanby, have each been suspended automatically for one game, while Washington head coach Glen Hanlon has been fined $30,000 and Atlanta head coach Bob Hartley fined $10,000. The disciplinary action is pursuant to NHL Rule 47.22, which states "a player who is deemed to be the instigator of an altercation in the final five minutes of regulation time or at any time in overtime, shall automatically be suspended for one game ... in addition, the player's coach shall be fined $10,000 – a fine that will double for each subsequent incident." Brashear was also suspended for an additional two games under Rule 29 – Supplementary Discipline. He will be eligible to return Nov. 30 against Dallas. The players’ suspension money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund while the coaches fines go to the NHL Foundation. Last edited by VodkaFish; 11-24-2006 at 05:59 PM. Reason: used release |

Good Old Days GONE!!!!
This is the biggest bunch of BS. I salute Brashear for defending his team. I wish someone would take Bettmans head off, what a *****...the"New NHL" is a joke.
We all need to make a deal... If anyone one of us ever runs into Bettman on the street, KICK THE EVER LOVING **** OUT OF HIM...and video tape it, then post it on hockeyfights.com |

Good move Gary Turkeyman!
Don't allow any passion, rivalry or excitement to exist in the NEW NHL otherwise people might start attending the games again! If I were the Capitals I would replace the suspended players with Peter Vandemeer and anyone else who fights down in Hersey. SEND A MESSAGE BACK to the pacifist ****head!!!

Hilarious! Obviously we knew those three would get at least one game but I'm not surprised Brashear ends up with an extra two. Figures.
![]() As far as Vishnevski goes, he's a dirty prick and deserved everything he got and more for that matter. Props to Brashear for doing his job regardless of the consequences he knew would come. |
