I usually love a good cheap shot but for some reason I am no fan of going at someone's knees when they are coming to hit you. If everybody was such a coward when they were about to get hit then there would be no hitting at all. Why hit someone when it could cost you 2-3 months with a serious knee injury? Players are turning and trying to protect their knees but that doesn't go to well either. If the player has the puck, that's one thing. When he is coming to hit you it's a completely different scenario and a cowardly way out. I could care less about a suspension, someone has to get this little scumbag. He is breaking a major unwritten rule at the very least.

Exactly what I thought he'd get, and exactly what he deserves. The way I see it, the hit itself is worth 2-3 games, and Marchands's history is enough to add 2 more on top of that. When you look at the big picture, it makes sense and I think the league was just here.
I hate Marchand like no tomorrow, but he's an interesting and polarizing figure. I've seen it quoted before that he was looking to tone things done and behave a litttle more at the start of the season, but between this and the slewfoot it appears that pledge has gone by the wayside. This may get him to tone things down again, because as much as I hate to admit he's a good hockey player and if he can control that Claude Lemieux side of him he'd be much more likeable - that and a nosejob - but I still want to see someone turn him into a red smear on the ice...

Really. Read my posts. I've proven you wrong on two seperate occasions and I'm getting in a pissing contest with someone who doesnt know the difference between Shawn and Scott Thornton, isnt man enough to say he was wrong when a posted a picture that showed clear as day the Burrows DID in fact touch Thornton with his stick and someone who calls a legit, well liked, tough player like SHAWN Thornton a liar.
I'll save my self the trouble and block you and your buddy Marius. I doubt I'll miss much. |

I'm still waiting to hear an explanation as to why Simmonds wasn't suspended for his blatant knee to the head of Claud giroux! Predatory!

Chiarelli's Response
"While we respect the process that the Department of Player Safety took to reach their decision regarding Brad’s hit on Sami Salo, we are very disappointed by their ruling. "While we understand that the Department of Safety is an evolving entity, it is frustrating that there are clear comparable situations that have not been penalized or sanctioned in the past. "It is equally disappointing that Brad sought the counsel of the Department this past Fall for an explanation and clarification regarding this type of scenario so as to adjust his game if necessary. He was advised that such an incident was not sanctionable if he was protecting his own safety. Given our feeling that Brad was indeed protecting himself and certainly did not clip the player as he contacted the player nowhere near the knee or quadricep, today’s ruling is not consistent with what the Department of Player Safety communicated to Brad." |

Its extremely unfortunate that Bruins team President,Cam Neely, didnt offer up his opinion. Granted,he played in the league when it was a mens league. None of this pascifist, crybaby crap! Every team had 3 or 4 tough guys, times were good. Grrrrrrr! I accept Shannys decision,we'll be all right. I assure the pascifist crowd,B's will play as tough,if not touger. Good call by the league, that will teach those dirty, mean, tough,B's! Haaaa!

Am I shocked by the suspension? No, although I don't think he deserved one. There have been far worse hits this year that have gotten less games. Considering their most often suspensions are for hits to the head, the fact that this resulted in a suspension I think is based solely upon Salo being injured and Marchand's "toe-the-line" attitude, that is well-known by teams and the NHL personnel alike.
This just continues to show the Player Safety Office's inconsistency with suspensions. |

I believe he is on 98.5 Felger and Mazz either Tuesday or Wednesday. He does a weekly show with them, and I'm sure Felger will ask him about it. |

As for the suspension it's more than I would have thought apart from Marchand being a repeat offender. |
