Boynton Out 3-4 Weeks; Coyotes Recall Roche From San Antonio; Assign LeNeveu

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett announced today that defenseman Nick Boynton will be out of the lineup 3-4 weeks with a fractured foot.

Boynton. 27, suffered his injury on Nov. 9 versus the Dallas Stars when he blocked a shot. He played his last 5 games with the injury and has recorded 0-2-2 and 72 penalty minutes (PIM) in 20 games this season.

The Coyotes also announced that the team has recalled defenseman Travis Roche from the San Antonio Rampage – the Coyotes’ top minor league affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Roche, 28, has registered 1-8-9 and 16 PIM in 17 games with San Antonio this season. His 8 assists and 9 points lead Rampage defensemen. The Coyotes signed the 6-foot-1, 200-pound native of Grand Cache, Alberta as a free agent this past off-season.

In his NHL career, Roche has collected 0-1-1 and 2 PIM in 10 games with Minnesota. He was a member of the 2004-05 AHL First All-Star Team when he ranked 3rd among defensemen in the league in scoring with 12-38-50 in 73 games. Roche won an AHL championship with Houston in 2003 and an NCAA championship at the University of North Dakota in 2000.

The Coyotes also announced that the team has assigned goaltender David LeNeveu to San Antonio. LeNeveu has collected a record of 2-1-0 with a 3.86 goals against average and .894 save percentage in 6 games with the Coyotes this season.

That's a major hit to their blueline. They don't really have much to spare.

Why would you call up a forward when a defenseman goes down with an injury?

Gratton is still up with the team as it is. And like someone else said you aren't going to recall a forward when a defenseman goes down with an injury.
