Blues Sign Wade Redden to One-Year Contract

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced the club has reached a deal in principal with defenseman Wade Redden.

Terms of the contract are one-year and $800,000.

“Wade is a solid two-way defenseman,” said Armstrong. “We believe his experience will complement and add stability to our defensive core.”

Redden, 35, has spent the past two seasons with the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Connecticut Whale. Last year, he posted 20 points, including 4 goals and 16 assists in 49 games.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound defenseman is a veteran of 13 NHL seasons, including 11 years in Ottawa and, most recently, two with the New York Rangers (2008-2010). Overall, Redden has appeared in 994 National Hockey League (NHL) games, totaling 450 points (106 goals, 344 assists) and 654 penalty minutes.

The Lloydminster, Saskatchewan native was originally drafted by the New York Islanders in the first round (2nd overall) of the 1995 Entry Draft.

Redden is scheduled to arrive in St. Louis this weekend and undergo a physical on Sunday.

I couldn't agree with you fella's any more. I don't think Redden is going to go out like a flaming wreck, he'll change his game around and I do think he'll be a hell'va pickup for the blues!

$800K, why not?

Good to see Wade back in the NHL. Hopefully he shows some old Redden and doesn't stink out the joint.

$800k that's a bargain for a vet like Redden , he will not hurt their chances of being one of the favorites out of the west to make it to the finals at all , he landed with a strong cup contender ...

Agree with everyone else here. Redden is not terrible by any means; his old contract was. I can list a boatload of dmen worse than Redden that will be making more than $800k.

Good, solid pick up. He'll help Pietrangelo mature.

Smart move by the Blues. 800K for a vet like Redden is a good, low risk/high reward move.

Good signing for the Blues, with that amount he could turn out like a bargain if he regain some of his old self.

Good for him. Would have been a shame for Redden to be so close to 1000 games and not get it because of all that.
